Based on the groundbreaking mini-series by Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli (the same team behind Daredevil: Born Again), Year One tells the tale of young Bruce Wayne returning to Gotham City after traveling the globe learning the necessary skills to begin his war on crime. Newcomer Jim Gordon arrives at the same time, finding the police department to be corrupt and the streets rife with violence.

A seminal adventure introducing the relationship between Jim Gordon and Batman, Year One also develops an awkward amateur into a master crime fighter.

Batman Year One has a release date of 18 October 2011.

Etsy seller, The Modern Stylographer specialises in pop culture inspired illustrations, which includes a series of Eames Inspired Midcentury Prints.

Pictured here is my favourite featuring a Starburst Clock, but the others designs are worth a look too, featuring a variety of Eames iconic chairs. As well as the simple illustration of the Eames design, each print also features a short product description. The prints measures 6 inches squared and cost $10 (around £6.50) each.

Order them online from the Etsy store.

Cornel Lucas might not be a name that is familiar to you, but if you have an interest in photography or classic cinema, it certainly should be.

His work will be showcased at an exhibition at the Chris Beetles Fine Photographs gallery from 20 July. Lucas' career took off after he photographed Marlene Dietrich in the 1930s and commissions from other film stars soon came his way. The exhibition brings together 40 of his portraits which capture the glamour of film stars from the 1940s and 1950s.

The exhibition runs from Wednesday 20 July to Saturday 27 August at Chris Beetles Fine Photographs, 3-5 Swallow Street London W1B 4DE.

eBay watch: 1970s Pieff Alpha armchair by Tim Bates

Pieff

I think we've waxed lyrical about Pieff before, a British company that made interesting and indeed quality items, particularly in the 1970s. While prices for other British makes (like Merrow Associates for example) have gone up, Pieff products are still very reasonable. As this Pieff Alpha armchair demonstrates.

It's a modernist-inspired design from Tim Bates, still looking very stylish 30+ years on. It has three removable cushions, pirelli seat support and a chrome frame. A 'vinyl stretcher' is fixed to the back frame to supports the two back cushions.

It's been well looked after, with only minor wear over the years, with the leather 'fed with quality leather cream' in the recent past. Bidding stands at £21 right now.

50s Retro two-door sideboard at Dooley's Furniture

Dooleys

50s Retro is the name  of the piece, with this oak sideboard certainly living up to the name.

By that, we mean the look is certainly 1950s midcentury, although the design is a new one. For your money you get that oak construction witty a satin lacquer finish, four low angled legs and two doors to the front.

The entire thing is 120cm wide (about 4ft) and 70cm tall, selling right now for £286.

Adidas AC Windbreaker reissued

Wind

Plenty of heavy showers round here right now. If you've got the same, this Adidas AC Windbreaker might be just the job.

An archive design (we would guess mid to late-80s), it's got a waterproof nylon construction, a 'zip away' adjustable hood, that contrasting colour block design and two zip closing pockets.

£65 is the price.

The Monkees 45th anniversary tour screenprint

Posted: 08 Jul 2011 04:08 AM PDT

Monk

Just got an email off Rhino about the Monkees going out on tour, also mentioning the merchandise on offer for said tour. Amongst all the t-shirts, there's this gem - The Monkees 45th anniversary tour screenprint.

It's a rather cool, vintage-style print made for the tour, a two-colour prong on 'thick cardstock'. Shame it only features the touring members (sorry Nesmith fans), but it's still an eye-catching item.

Grab it online at the Rhino site, $20 secures one.

Visage wallpaper featuring Marilyn Monroe

Posted: 08 Jul 2011 03:02 AM PDT

Visage wallpaper
She's one of the most iconic of Hollywood stars - and now thanks, to this Visage wallpaper, you can have Marilyn Monroe in your home whenever and wherever you want her.

Part of the Albany catwalk range that also features retro clocks that we showed you last week, this wallpaper design reproduces the image of a youthful looking Marilyn, alongside some almost indecipherable text reading 'strike a pose'. There's a choice of two colourways available, both of which nod to the glamour of the big screen. Take your pick from black and grey with metallic inks, or chocolate and gold.

The paper costs £19.99.

Red ceramic kitchen clock

Laura ashley clock

This red ceramic kitchen clock is another retro design courtesy of the high street.

With its asymmetric frame, and striking red finish, it's a design that looks towards the 1950s. Couple that with the minimal clock-face markings and it definitely appears as if it was designed quite a few years before 2011.

A high street price for it too: the clock costs £30.
