Melise Faux Fur Coat from Boohoo Pink

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 10:15 AM PST

Melisefur

With faux fur coats all the rage once more on the high street, most designs have focused on a mid sixties look or earlier. If you're feeling braver in your vintage look apparel, this Melise Faux Fur Coat from Boohoo Pink taps into a later sixties look to bring something out of the ordinary.

The coat's oversized cut, along with longer fur fibres, creates a more extreme silhouette. Tapping into the decadently trashy aesthetic of Edie Sedgwick and Nico, this coat speaks of a later sixties retro appeal that's less often seen from mainstream brands.

Get it online from Boohoo, as part of their Pink collection, for £70.

eBay watch: Ercol Studio Couch / Sofa Bed

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 10:02 AM PST

Ercol

Regular readers will recall we featured the Ercol 1950s anniversary Studio Couch range, offering the classic sofa range with some bright new finishes. That range started at £1,685, but this Ercol Studio Couch on eBay is currently going for a lot less.

It's the same design, the work of company founder Lucian Ercolani and originally launched in the late 1950s. This is probably a fairly recent reissue, described as being in 'solid' condition and in 'light elm', with a few marks and scratches from wear. The upholstery may or may not be original.

But saying all that, it looks like a decent option if you want to spend a little time cleaning it up. £36 is the price as I right, with the seller also offering a couple of matching armchairs in a separate auction.

Colourblock Ponte Dress from Dorothy Perkins

Colourblock

With every batch of new Christmas frocks in the shops it's beading and sequins that we see most of all. For something a little more subtle and classic, this Colourblock Ponte Dress from Dorothy Perkins is an ideal choice.

Using blocking to create a decidedly sixties inspired pattern, the dress' shape follows that inspiration too. A large, flared sleeve compliments the high neckline and shorter hemline to create a shape that's structured and striking. Finished in a muted mocha shade, this dress has a timeless appeal.

It's available now from Dorothy Perkins for £36.

For sale: 1960s-designed five-bedroom house in West Byfleet, Surrey

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 07:18 AM PST

Byfleet1

Not every house we feature necessarily comes with a designer pedigree. This 1960s-designed five-bedroom house in West Byfleet, Surrey is just one of 11 similarly-styled houses on the same estate. But it's an incredibly distinctive house nonetheless.

The interior has been made to look very 'average' to be honest, but it's a design that should be very easy to change around and return to a '60s-style pad, if that's what you want. See the interior shots to see what we mean by that.

The house itself offers three reception rooms (including a dual aspect living room), an L-shaped hallway, open staircase and five bedrooms (one en-suite). There's also a built-in garage, some timber cladding and a flat roof. Love that balcony to the rear too.

£565,000 is the asking price, which isn't cheap, but we suspect is indicative of prices in that particular area.

The examples shown on her website are mainly chest of drawers, which have been decorated with comics, vintage maps and wallpaper from Lizzie Allen. Pictured here is a piece that has been coved in Sukie's Alphabet wrapping paper to create something that looks good and is educational too.

For details of pieces currently available or to commission something yourself, contact Bryonie Porter via her website. Expect to pay somewhere between £700 and £1,200.

Calyx inspired tableware at Heal's

Posted: 21 Dec 2010 04:23 AM PST

Calyxtableware_m
Cast your minds back to October and you may remember Heal's Dinky armchair. It was especially noticeable for its upholstery which was a reinterpretation of Lucienne Day's famous Calyx design. If you liked that, Heal's have gone one step further with the design applying it to this set of Calyx inspired tableware

Calyx was originally created for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and remains one of Day's most famous designs. For this reinterpretation, geometric stem-like forms of the designs have been applied against white porcelain. In a bit of circularity, the placement and use of the natural motif on this tableware echoes a design that itself drew heavily from the 1950s - Sanderson's hugely popular Dandelion Clocks range

Prices for this tableware start at £5.50 for a cereal bowl and go up to £25 for a platter.
