Twill Wide Leg Pants from American Apparel Posted: 03 Aug 2011 09:52 AM PDT With all your decadent retro evening wear being catered for by many retro brands and high street stores alike, it's often a harder task to track down items for a more casual, every day look. Thankfully the seventies trend offers many options, like these Twill Wide Leg Pants from American Apparel. The trousers' shape has an instant shot of seventies inspiration thanks to the combination of a wide flared leg, starting at the knee, and a high rise waist too. Made from a stretch twill instead of denim, they're ideal for warmer days and promise a more snug fit too. Available in three colour choices, they're now at American Apparel UK for £72. Polka Dot Jacket from Warehouse Posted: 03 Aug 2011 09:52 AM PDT With fashion's eternal love of recycling ideas and adding new twists, it should be no surprise that retrospective design is no new thing. The 1980s had a particular fondness for fifties styles, reinterpreting pieces with a unique eighties slant. This Polka Dot Jacket from Warehouse is really reminiscent of an eighties reimagining of fifties style elements. The 50s polka dot print is used in a simple but structured blazer, with the rolled 3/4 sleeves and hip pockets helping to create that relaxed androgyny of eighties mainstream fashion. It's available from Warehouse now for £65. Find out more from the website |
Mengsel Toucan Print Posted: 03 Aug 2011 09:49 AM PDT Birds often turn up in Scandinavian-inspired designs, be it folk-art style doves or owls, but the subject of this print is less common. The Mengsel Toucan Print by Luzelle van der Westhuizen is inspired by geometric and hand-drawn patterns, particularly those found in African and Scandinavian design. The design is dominated by a bright orange colour, which adds to its retro look. The silkscreen print is available as a limited edition (although the number isn't specified) and framed in white wood. It costs £105 from Heal's. |
Town Colour It Yourself Poster from Summerville Posted: 03 Aug 2011 08:55 AM PDT You may remember the Scandi Poster from Summerville we featured a while ago – now the same company Summerville have produced a new design on the same idea. Where the Scandi design featured flowers, the Town Colour It Yourself poster should appeal to anyone with a love of architecture as it features rows of houses in different styles, along with passing traffic of vintage-looking cars. It has been screenprinted, but with only a black outline; the rest being left for you to colour in with pencils, felt tips or crayons as you wish. It costs about £10 from the Summerville Etsy store. |

Complete with a replacement stereo compatible cartridge and brand new stylus, the Dansette RG.31 is currently at just £1.60 right now. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Devoree Deco Tee from Topshop Posted: 03 Aug 2011 07:11 AM PDT
Twenties inspired fashion tends to take the form of elaborate beaded dresses and feathered headresses. Not so with this Devoree Deco Tee from Topshop. An altogether tougher piece, this tee embraces the sharp lines and geometry of modernist design for a sleek, more masculine take on a vintage look. Wear with skinny jeans and brogues for daytime or hotpants and heels for a dressier evening ensemble. The tee is made of black devoree, with the design burnt out so that the it stands on a sheer background. It costs £32 from Topshop here. |
For sale: Midcentury-style four-bedroomed house in Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria Posted: 03 Aug 2011 06:37 AM PDT Great location and some interesting midcentury-style architecture - this four-bedroomed house in Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria certainly has a lot going for it.
We don't know when it was built, the 1960s would be a educated guess though, with the current owners being here for the last 30 years. Found in 'one of the area's foremost post codes' and in the middle of the Lake District, the house is a mix of old and new, with the original design features intact, rubbing shoulders with some modern-day upgrading in the kitchen and bathroom for example. Outside, you'll find a double detached garage with access to the' undercroft storage'. Inside, there's an entrance hallway with apex ceiling, a living room with the same wood panelled ceiling, Lakeland slate pillars and with access leading on to the balcony, which has views to Lake Windermere. There's also a newly fitted kitchen a ground floor snug, four bedrooms (one with en suite three piece shower room) a family bathroom and fully tiled laundry.
Love some of the interior furnishings too, not least the gold discs on the wall. Some old rock star living here? You can find out if you book a viewing, although you'll need £1,300,000 to buy it.

Take your pick from the woman shown or an equivalent era man. If you like the look of these, take a look at some of the mug shot posters also offered by this Cincinnati based design duo.
