eBay watch: 1960s Artifort swivel chair Posted: 24 Jan 2011 08:29 AM PST Interesting item, although I'm not exactly sure of the model of Artifort swivel chair here. According to the seller, this is the F978 chair, designed by Geoffrey Harcourt in 1968 and pictured here. I'm not convinced, but it's definitely of the era and branded Artifort on the rear of the base, so it's certainly a period item of quality. Not perfect, with some pulled threads and the odd paint chip on the base (see description for close-up shots), but at £300, it's a lot cheaper than picking up a new vintage Artifort chair. Re-issue of 1930s game Laripino Posted: 24 Jan 2011 08:24 AM PST If you want to buy your kids a game that doesn't require an endless supply of AA batteries, you may want to look at this re-issue of the game Laripino. The game dates back to the 1930s when it was manufactured by Spear's and operates on a very simple concept: players roll marbles down the helter skelter and are awarded different amounts of points depending on the hole the marbles land in. It's as straight forward as that. While this re-issue makes use of the original packaging to add to its nostalgic charm, whether your kids go for it or not is a different matter... The Story of Northern Soul book by David Nowell Posted: 24 Jan 2011 04:17 AM PST With all the hype surrounding the Soulboy movie still fresh, it's perhaps the perfect time to update a book on the subject of northern soul. That book is The Story of Northern Soul by David Nowell. Published by Portico and now on the shelves (virtual or otherwise), it's essentially an updated version of the long out of print Too Darn Soulful, kicking off with the emergence of sould music in the mod clubs of the 1960s, working its way through the northern scene as it developed, throwing in some anecdotes, photos and flyers plus, in this new version, a chapter covering developments and changes since 1999, when the original book was first published. Crosley CR92 Country Kitchen Phone Posted: 24 Jan 2011 03:04 AM PST   The Crosley CR92 Country Kitchen Phone is a reproduction of an early American phone from the early 1920s.  It features a turning crank handle, a handcrafted wood and veneer cabinet and a storage compartment. Where it differs from the original design, is that what looks like a traditional rotary dial, is actually push buttons. It is available to buy from Amazon, priced just over $63.
