The History Of Labor Day Video | Discovery Channel Recounts How Holiday Came About

Posted: 06 Sep 2010 08:03 AM PDT

Today – September 6 – is Labor Day in the United States. It falls on the first Monday of every September, and it’s the day when the contributions of the American workforce are meant to be commemorated.

However, in this day and age it’s less about remembering the past and how labor laws were changed for the better, and more about having a last long weekend before the summer gives way to autumn.

This Discovery Channel video attempts to explain the history of Labor Day is words and pictures. I can’t help thinking it should be shown to schoolchildren to remind them how fortunate they, and even their parents are, compared to people 100 years ago.

Labor Day for me means struggling to find interesting things on the Web, as everyone else has the day off. But I’m not bitter about it. Much.

‘I Don’t Think Hell Exists’ Says Ex-Bishop (Video) | Shocking Interview On Dateline NBC

In a Dateline interview with NBC, a retired Episcopal bishop from Newark, N.J. said some controversial words:

“Hell is an invention of the church … The catholic church doesn’t like the people to grow up.”

John Spong probably won’t be allowed in the Catholic Church anymore once this video gets more popular, but then again, he probably doesn’t even want to. Being an atheist, I certainly respect this man’s ability to embrace his change in beliefs.

If you ask me there are too many Christian “posers” that are simply spouting what they’ve heard or read blindly. This bishop is a refreshing exception to that rule. If only more “good Christians” would think like this!

JetBlue Employee Becomes A Cult Hero (Video) | Is Our Workforce Stressed Out?

If you ask any American today that has a typical 8 hour job, they’ll probably tell you the same thing that’s mentioned in this video; a dollar just isn’t worth what it used to be.

And as long as we have to keep working harder for the same amount of money, incidents like the one with the “crazy” JetBlue flight attendant are bound to become more common.

Let’s face it, anyone who’s worked a minimum wage job has dreamed of doing what Steven Slater did on a weekly basis. As one of his neighbors states, his mom had cancer complications and was probably already stressed out.

In an industry where pilots are already underpaid, I’m actually surprised it took this long for something like this to happen. Flying today just isn’t as comfortable as it used to be 10 years ago.

Terrible “The X Factor” Audition Video | Rude Chav Girls Can’t Sing, Can Fight

I always thought Vicky Pollard was simply a character on the comedy series Little Britain. But apparently Matt Lucas’ obnoxious teen was based on a couple of X Factor hopefuls, Abbey and Lisa.

I must admit, I was prepared for the woeful singing. I was prepared for the shocking attitudes. But I wasn’t quite prepared for all the fireworks.

The girls hit out when they’re booed even before they start to sing. Once their vocal “skills” don’t impress, they start to get even more obnoxious.

I have two favorite moments here. How can you choose between Lisa asking Natalie Imbruglia who she is, and Abbey slapping Lisa in the face?

It looks like this friendship is another casualty of the reality TV machine!
