Fp_cagoule

It might look like a relic from the 1980s, but this Fred Perry Cagoule is actually a new item inspired by the past, with a more premium finish than you might have remembered from your schooldays.

This is a waterproof British Millerain Rip Stop nylon cagoule, complete with  leather zip pulls, a large 'kangaroo' pocket at the front, plus double zip pockets and an adjustable hood finishing things off. Oh yes, the Fred Perry Laurel too as you would expect.

£99 is the asking price for one of these.

Orangezigzag

Continuing the high street's current love affair with seventies looks, the decade's unique mixture of hippy influence and decadent chic is providing the latest inspiration. This Zig Zag Print Top from Oasis treads the line between both those influences with ease.

With artfully draped loose fabric, the silhouette is instantly seventies thanks to a batwing style square cut. The mixture of floral prints and earthy colours adds a post-sixties folk style to a top that's versatile and stylish.

eBay watch: 1970s Rosita UFO Vision 2000 space age hi-fi system

Posted: 21 Feb 2011 08:28 AM PST

Rosita

We have featured a couple of Rosita audio system in the past (namely here and here), but this Rosita UFO Vision 2000 hi-fi system is undoubtedly our favourite.

Designed out of West Germany in 1971 by Thilo Oerke, the design is pure space age - a globe holding the audio kit, with a chromed tulip-style stand for support. sadly, the audio doesn't quite live up to the design, a very 'of the era' cassette player and radio, although the futuristic controls and slide-up clear domed lid make up for it in some way.

It's described as being in 'original unrestored condition, with 'only marginal wear' to show for the years. Not cheap though, £1,899 on a 'Buy It Now' or you can make an offer. Another image over the page, many more on the listing.

Vintage Ferrowatt Light Bulbs

Vintage-ferro-watt-old-style-light-bulbs-60w-4939-p
Recently added to Rockett St George's stock is the Vintage Ferrowatt Light Bulb, an exact replica of the bulb originally invented by Thomas Edison.

These light bulbs have been created using the original moulds from the early 1900s with all details kept the same including their looped filaments and hand-exhaused tips. The bulb is 60watts, has a 2,500 hour life span and is available with either a wide screw in fitting or bayonet fitting.  You could hang the bulb on its own without a shade, but even with such a beautiful bulb, it might look a bit cheap, so what you really need is a transparent shade - which coincidentally Rockett St George also currently sell.

The light bulb costs £14.99 from the Rockett St George.

The mug is decorated with the logo of the television show, which was at its most popular in the Seventies and Eighties (it actually ran up until 1993). The words "Thanks Jim" are printed on the inside of the mug in a similar font.

The mug costs £4.39 and is available to buy from Amazon.

Mai Tai Zombie by Jonny Hannah

Posted: 21 Feb 2011 06:00 AM PST

Mai tai

It's not the first time we've featured the striking work of British artist Jonny Hannah. His most recent exhibition Burning Love is a heady wall-to-wall mix of jazz, blues & retro Americana with a twist of wit and wickedness that has become his trademark.

Mai Tai Zombie is a unique painting on a cut out board, resembling the signs that adorned the original tiki bars that swept across America in the 1930s. An appropriate finishing touch for those lucky enough to have a bar at home, or those who just wish they did.

Mai Tai Zombie is £95 from Castor & Pollux - you can catch Jonny Hannah's Burning Love exhibition at their Brighton gallery until 13th March.

Lucienne Day Panama rug from John Lewis

Posted: 21 Feb 2011 04:36 AM PST

Lucienne panama
We recently showed you the Lucienne Day bed linen for Heal's, now John Lewis is also offering you the opportunity to purchase some of the textile designer's style with this Lucienne Day Panama rug

Lucienne Day had a long-running relationship with John Lewis as, from 1962 to 1987, she and her husband Robin Day were employed by the store as design consultants on a new house style and interiors for their stores. The rug, exclusive to John Lewis, reflects Day's interest in abstract design and has a strikingly modern look, although perhaps has a much more muted colour scheme than you'd normally associate with her designs.

Each rug is a hand-woven wool and cotton mix and costs £295.

Vintage ticket travel card wallet

Posted: 21 Feb 2011 04:25 AM PST

Travel card wallet

This vintage ticket travel card wallet is an easy way to inject a little bit of retro style into your everyday routine.

As the name suggests, the wallet is based on an old ticket, when the fare to ride London's buses, trains and trams was just a penny. The route depicted takes in several well known destinations, such as Saville Row and Big Ben, as well as some less famous South London sites such as Denmark Hill and Tooting Reformatory. It's got vintage looks but contemporary practicality - the wallet is made from plastic.

It costs just £1.00

Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni's Arco floor lamp for Flos heavily discounted at Achica

Posted: 21 Feb 2011 12:48 AM PST

Arco

Various high street budget versions have been available for a number of years from the likes of John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, but there's nothing like the real thing when it comes to the Arco floor lamp by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos. If you want the original, now is a good time to get one, as Achica has it in clearance.

Yes, this 1962 design, inspired by street lights and still an icon of the era, is now more affordable. Although you will need a large room to fit it in. As you would expect, the floor lamp has a white Carrara marble base and a telescopic arched stem of stainless steel (with a satin finish) for adjustable, directional light. A dimmer switch also offers up an ambient glow for mood lighting too.

That size? 232cm tall (between 7 and 8ft) and 220cm tall. Usually it sells for £1,429, but for the next two days, it's yours for £999.

Find out more at the Achica website

Note you'll have to quickly register (for free) if you've not visited Achica before.
