New Old Spice Advert Video | Changing The Perception Of The Retro Aftershave For Men

Posted: 09 Feb 2010 08:08 AM PST

I don’t know about you but when I think of Old Spice I think of a retro aftershave for old men that’s been around for decades. And it has, first being produced in 1938.

However, the brand now belongs to Procter and Gamble, which clearly wants to change that image. And this ad, which is one of the best I’ve seen in years, can only help that effort.

The guy in the ad is very good looking, and what he says manages to be both inspiring and mocking. What we’re left with is a funny ad which manages to keep your eyes on the screen, surely the number one job of any promotional clip.

Does this make me want to go out and buy Old Spice? No, unfortunately not. But it does make me want to see what it smells like. And a few more ads like this and I may be persuaded to actually purchase a bottle.

Segway X2 Off-Road Video | Segway Stunts

Posted: 09 Feb 2010 04:05 AM PST

I remember when the Segway was first invented; people such as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs thought it would revolutionize the world. It didn’t, it hasn’t, in fact it’s wholly failed to enter the mainstream, remaining a niche product since launch.

That’s not to say it isn’t a desirable product. I know I’d like one, and I’m sure there are other like me. But the price and the actual practicality of owning one has limited how many people have actually dug their hands in their pockets.

However, Segway was bought by a British businessman last month, and there are now plans to roll the self-righting personal transporter out in India. And the X2 model seen in this video is one of the two being launched.

As you can see in the video, the X2 is an all-terrain version of the Segway, and it’s entirely possible to both go off-road and do stunts on it. Which makes me want one even more.

New World Record for Swallowing Swords Video | Aussie Space Cowboy Swallows 18 Swords

Posted: 08 Feb 2010 02:22 PM PST

The world has a new sword swallowing record holder. In fact, he’s the same man who held the previous world record, but watching Space Cowboy go one better still makes for fascinating viewing.

The Australian street performer known as Chayne Hultgren to his parents swallowed 18 swords in the center of Sydney recently. He seems pretty chuffed with his efforts, and the crowd too is impressed. This isn’t your everyday busker after all.

Apparently the feat took intense training, which makes me wonder exactly how one trains for this kind of thing. The consequences of sword swallowing practice gone bad seem pretty extreme to me!

Watch Super Brain Yoga News Video | Exercise to Make You Smart

Posted: 08 Feb 2010 02:17 PM PST

It may sound strange, but teachers, parents and researchers alike are singing the praises of Super Brain yoga – the three minute a day yoga exercise that can make you smarter.

I have only just watched this video, so I haven’t tried the exercise myself, but it sounds fascinating.

I love learning about alternate therapies and treatments for things, so this yoga move combined with acupuncture points looks great. It certainly can’t hurt to try.

I do wish they would have gone a little more into the technical side of how it works (the video was just basic) and how it stimulates the brain.

I suppose I’d better get to it now, huh?

Congressman John Murtha Dead at 77 (News Video) | Gallbladder Surgery Complications

Posted: 08 Feb 2010 02:07 PM PST

Democratic Congressman and retired Marine Corps officer John Murtha has died at the age of 77 today due to complications from gallbladder surgery.

Murtha was elected in February 1974 and was the longest serving member of the House from Pennsylvania. He will most likely be most known for his call to withdraw us troops from Iraq as early as 2005.

Murtha was also the first Vietnam combat veteran elected to Congress, cementing his place in history early on.

While his death was due to gallbladder surgery complication, the reports are that he died peacefully in the hospital with his family around him.

RIP Mr. Murtha
