Cowboys And Aliens is based on the cult hit comic book by Andrew Foley, Fred Van Lente (Incredible Hercules, Marvel Zombies 3, 4 and 5, Iron Man Legacy) and Luciano Lima, itself a project dreamed up by Platinum Studios President Scott Rosenberg for feature film development. So not only are existing comics being made into movies, now comic books are being created in order to be developed into feature films. What a weird world we live in. As I've noted a few times on my blog, Van Lente has become a favorite writer of mine from his Marvel Comics work, but he has been recognized as a fantastic scribe since his
Action Philosophers! series attracted positive press. Now look at his output!
Starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell and Olivia Wilde, the movie is directed by Iron Man's John Favreau as a straight western... with aliens. Initially, Robert Downey Jr. was set to star, but he stepped down just prior to Iron Man 2.
News has been slim on this movie until the debut at the 2010 San Diego Comicon where the trailer wowed attendees. Finally, the rest of us can see what the hubbub is all about...
