Watch How to Make Homemade Pumpkin Pie From Scratch Recipe Video

Posted: 13 Nov 2010 07:38 AM PST

Laura In The Kitchen shows you how to make a real pumpkin pie from scratch. Well, with the pumpkin puree being the only thing not from scratch.

Can you tell that I get hungry around about the time I do these videos? Or maybe it is just the time of the year to be thinking about all the delicious food that is coming up.

I can’t wait to get some sticky date pudding just for Christmas…

Pumpkin pie isn’t really done here in Australia, so I wanted to find a great recipe that you would all enjoy but I could use as well. So I hope you find this useful. I’m off to make pie.

Funny Doug Stanhope Bashes Marriage (Video) | Taxes & Government Regulation on Love?

Posted: 12 Nov 2010 08:03 PM PST

Doug Stanhope is probably my favorite progressive comic right now. Much like George Carlin and Bill Hicks, he isn’t very mainstream due to his controversial views.

Here’s a clip from one of this specials where he bashes marriage- gay, straight, or otherwise.

Now that some of my peers are getting married, I just feel awkward about being invited to their weddings. As Doug points out, “Don’t think for a second that anyone wants to actually go to your wedding!” Half of me wants to support my friends, and the other half thinks that marriage doesn’t work.

A lot of Doug’s points make perfect sense but will they ever be the majority opinion? I highly doubt it in my lifetime. Marriage is an industry for a lot of people and as long as there is money to be made in Hollywood and on jewelry it’ll still exist.

Waterboarding Controversy Video | Christopher Hitchens Tortured For Vanity Fair

Posted: 12 Nov 2010 04:25 PM PST

George W. Bush revealed in the memoirs of his time as President of the U.S.A. that he authorized the use of waterboarding on three suspected terrorists. And he sticks by his decision to do so, insisting that the practice is not torture.

This video makes me think differently. After hearing descriptions of waterboarding and how cruel and unusual an activity it is I suspected it was torture. And now I know it is.

The man being waterboarded here is Christopher Hitchens, a British journalist and writer with Vanity Fair. A man who can be trusted to give an honest appraisal of the practice after being subjected to it.

There is no doubt in my mind that waterboarding constitutes torture. While no physical harm is done, the mental anguish of believing you are drowning must be intense. If that’s not torture then I defy anyone to explain why it isn’t.

Amazing Life on Facebook Short Film Video | The Years Documented Online

Posted: 12 Nov 2010 02:50 PM PST

These days it seems most of us are living our lives not in the “real world,” but on Facebook. This surprisingly touching short film documents the passing years of one man on this social networking website.

At the start of this video I was prepared to dismiss it as the online happenings of a fairly irresponsible and unlikable young man. But I’m so glad I stuck with it, and I hope you do too.

That jerky phase of Alex Droner is simply part of that journey, a blip on a life that process to be rich, full of happiness and love. And Facebook is there to document it all.

This clever short film shows the very human side of social networking.

Cindy McCain Supports Gay Rights (Video) | Eye-Opening LGBT PSA with McCain’s Wife

Posted: 12 Nov 2010 02:35 PM PST

John McCain may be “on the safe side” when it comes to voicing his opinions on gay rights, but his wife isn’t. Here she she can be seen in a celebrity-filled PSA saying some controversial comments like, “Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future.”

After seeing this video, I think we know who wore the pants in the family before John and her got divorced.

While I love the fact that celebrities are voicing their opinions when it comes to supporting the LGBT community, I think this video could have been put together a tad bit better. For starters, it’s way too long for a commercial and I felt as if I were being lectured by the halfway mark.

Another thing I didn’t really like about the video was the line about how homophobia “starts with a joke.” I’m sorry but jokingly saying, “That’s so gay!” doesn’t incite violence. In fact, I know quite a few members of the LGBT community that use that phrase in jest.

That being said, I’m so glad McCain’s wife is an actually taking a stance on an important issue (unlike her iffy husband). Who knows, Hilary might have some competition in the next election.

Jim Davis talks Garfield Video | Cartoonist Creates Controversy On Veterans Day 2010

Posted: 12 Nov 2010 12:24 PM PST

Jim Davis is in the middle of a huge controversy at the moment thanks to a Garfield strip some have taken to be a direct attack on war veterans.

This video shows Garfield creator Jim Davis talking about the beloved cartoon character and how he approaches the job of writing and drawing new strips for Garfield to populate every day.

The reason for posting this video is because of the number of people who have taken the Garfield strip which appeared in yesterday’s newspapers (Nov. 11) the wrong way, accusing it of being derogatory to veterans.

I don’t believe it was, and even if it were then it wasn’t Davis’ choice to have this particular strip, featuring the line, “National Stupid Day,” appear on Veterans Day.
