Becken

We have seen reissues in the fairly recent past, but there's something reassuringly classic about the latest take on the Adidas Beckenbauer trainers.

Originally an all-round football and training shoe from 1982, this no-nonsense shoe is back in a classic colourway of black and orange, offering up a plush perforated leather upper, high impact training outsole and some gold branding on the side.

Rockin' - The Rockabilly Scene photobook by Andrew Shaylor

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 09:56 AM PST

Rockin

Following on from the Or Glory 21st Century Rockers book by Horst A. Friedrichs comes another book that looks to be covering similar ground - Rockin' - The Rockabilly Scene book by Andrew Shaylor.

There are two key differences though. Firstly, this book doesn't land until next year and secondly, it seems to cover more ground geographically, taking in scenes in the US and UK. Indeed, Rockin' is described as a 'unique portrayal of the contemporary rockabilly scene', with Shaylor granted exclusive access at events to capture 'the raw energy of the music and the commitment of the rockabilly community to authenticity'.

There's also a history of the subculture by rockabilly legend Jerry Chatabox in the book. which is published by Merrell in April 2011. You can pre-order now though, with Amazon discounting to £19.50 from the £30 RRP.

eBay watch: Verner Panton-style Moon floor lamp

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 09:36 AM PST

Moon

We have featured the Verner Panton Moon light for the celing, as well as a pine variation of that design. But this isn't a Verner Panton design, this Moon floor lamp is just incredibly similar.

It's a stunning bit of design, presumably from the 70s and with a lampshade made of thin slats of pine reinforced by a central metal circular structure. The slats can be moved individually and are arranged in a concentric spiral. The stem and circular foot are made of pine.

It's described as being in 'very good' condition and in 'full working' order, with just a few age-related marks. A few bids on it, but still only £10, which is a bit of a bargain.

Festival Wallpaper by Mini Moderns - celebrating the 1951 Festival of Britain

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 04:50 AM PST

Festival

It's quirky, cool and very retro - the newly-launched Festival Wallpaper by Mini Moderns.

This midcentury-inspired wallpaper celebrates the enduring influence of the 1951 Festival of Britain, the post-war exhibition of the new wave of modern British design, which celebrates its 60th Anniversary next year. If you look closely, you'll see highlights of that exhibition - the iconic Skylon, the Dome of Discovery and the Royal Festival Hall, not to mention the Transport Pavilion and The Lion and the Unicorn Pavilion.

The wallpaper comes in 10m x 52cm rolls printed with waterbased inks on paper from sustained forests and in three colour options. Festival is apparently the first design in the new Mini Moderns Day-tripper collection, launching in September 2011, which celebrates aspects of British culture, hobbies and pastimes. See another shot of Festival over the page.

LP cushions by The Grateful Thread

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 03:46 AM PST

Grateful thread
As part of our ongoing list of things for the home that look like records, you may want to take a look at these LP cushions, made by the wonderfully named The Grateful Thread.

Each cushion is made from soft fleece in the shape and style of a vinyl LP. The fun is definitely in the details with these cushions. Embroidery is used to create the album title and artwork with, for example, the Sofa Chillin' version pictured resembling a Sun Record. That not to your taste? Take a look at the Rockabilly and Sweet Dreams designs which are also available.

The cushions cost £28 each.

What Every Woman Ought to Know – Lifestyle Lessons from the 1930s

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 03:23 AM PST

"What Every Woman Ought to Know – Lifestyle Lessons from the 1930s" is a collection of cuttings taken from the Daily Mail during that decade, offering advice on beauty, fashion, cookery and home-making.

As you might expect, some of the articles seem incredibly dated now and the worldview it offers is extremely limited (although it might be said that The Daily Mail hasn't changed much), but there are still some interesting snippets in here that make it worth a read.

The book is currently on offer at Past Times, where it is being sold at half price at £7.49.

Lemonade Bottle Top Clock

Coming soon to Graham and Green is this Lemonade Bottle Top Clock.

Yes, it is a clock designed to look like a vintage bottle top with scalloped edges, but I think it just about stays the right side of novelty. The clock face is green and has a worn appearance that adds to the shabby chic look.

It costs £25 and can be pre-ordered now, for delivery in late December, probably too late for it to be a Christmas gift. Order it online from Graham and Green.
