After Doctor Who, the Avengers is easily the most innovative and mercurial TV program ever made. Part satirical comedy, part action/adventure serial, the episodes followed the actions of agents John Steed and his various companions (Cathy Gale, Emma Peel, and Tara King) in fighting injustice. If you have a Doctor Who fan on your shopping list and are at a loss as to what s/he doesn't already own, this could make for an ideal gift.

Via FilmSchoolRejects:

The Avengers was a hit television show that aired on the ITV Network in the United Kingdom from 1961 through 1969, racking up 161 well received episodes. The show followed Ministry agent John Steed, a clever super spy in London during the Cold War. Often paired with a beautiful partner, Steed used a wide variety of Bondian gadgets and nifty tricks during the hour long run time.

The show was well received at the time and still has quite the following today, leading up to the release of The Avengers: A Celebration fifty years after the show first ran. If you're a fan of the spy series, this is definitely a book to warm up your coffee table. The 160 full color pages are filled to the edge with hundreds of spectacular photos of the cast. This book makes a wonderful addition to any collection for fans of the series or just fans of nice coffee table picture books. The list price is around $30, but if you shop through Amazon you'll find it for under $20.
