RETRO KIMMER'S TOP 10 CHRISTMAS MOVIES

1. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (1964) A misfit reindeer and his friends look for a place that will accept them.

This is my all-time favorite Christmas movie. From Hermey the elf ("I want to be a dentist!") to Yukon Cornelius (the "greatest prospector of the north!") and Rudolph himself, this is a Christmas classic that I have watched since it first aired in 1964. It was a big hit then as it still is today.

** Fun Facts Copies of both the Santa and Rudolph puppets were recently found in storage in the attic of a woman that used to work for Rankin-Bass. The puppets were in remarkably good condition, considering it was estimated they were in storage since the late 1960s, with only a little yellowing of Santa's hair, beard, and white trim on his coat. The pair now travel the country to various trade shows and conventions.

2. Elf

This is a silly and goofy Christmas movie. But then Will Farrell is the star and Bob Newhart plays his elf papa! My daughter and I both love this movie. My favorite part is when Buddy and his girlfriend to be Jovie are singing "Baby It's Cold Outside" in the shower room.

Favorite quote: "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!"

3. Miracle on 34th St (1947)

When a nice old man who claims to be Santa Claus is institutionalized as insane, a young lawyer decides to defend him by arguing in court that he is the real thing.

This is such a great film and everyone in it is fabulous. But I always cry when Kris Kringle sings in Dutch to the little girl from Holland ... sigh

4. The Christmas List (1997)
This movie is a must watch for me every year. It is about a perfume sales lady in a major department store and how after her Christmas wish list gets dropped into Santa's mail box her dreams start coming true. Very well done and with an excellent supporting cast. Cheers me to watch this show.

5. White Christmas (1954)
A successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general. This movie is a ritual viewing for the holidays for me. It can be silly. Absolutely love the musical numbers and the dancing is fabulous. The ending is spectacular

6. The Santa Clause (1994)

Tim Allen really lends a sense of possibility to this heart warming story of a divorced father who suddenly becomes Santa Clause and all the changes he and his young son encounter... Just love all 3 Santa Clause films.

7. Home Alone (1&2) (1990, 1992)

A must watch anytime of year but especially at Christmas. Both films are about young Kevin who is "accidentally" left home alone on Christmas vacation. Kevin outwits two goofy bad guys and finds the true meaning of Christmas too. Love watching Kevin set up all those elaborate booby traps! One lingering question for me has always been, how did he get that house cleaned up before his mother got home??

8. A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)

Charlie Brown trying to find the meaning of Christmas is one of the most heart warming shows to watch in this day and age. I always get a little weepy when Charlie Brown with his little tree and then all his friends yell "MERRY CHRISTMAS, CHARLIE BROWN."

9. Scrooged (1988)

A cynically selfish TV executive gets haunted by three spirits bearing lessons on Christmas Eve. This is Bill Murray at his radically finest manic comedy. With an assist from the ever hysterical Bobcat Goldthwait. I watch this film over and over and always fine a new gem moment that I missed before.

Top 10 Scrooged Moments

10. Love Actually(2003)

These interlocking stories of love lost and found at Christmastime are pitch perfect. Funny and sad with just the right amount of schmaltz, they're enough to make you believe that, at Christmas at least, love really is all around.
