Those colour blocks of course, for the decade, being black and white, with the (almost) knee-length dress featuring buttons on the straps, plus contrast pocket detailing, again with buttons finishing things off. Well, if you don't, check them out, as they look absolutely stunning. I suspect sales have gone well too, as the company is now recycling other items, producing designs like this Vyconic rotary phone desk clock. Yes, this did indeed start off life as a humble dial phone, but has since been given a makeover and some clock hands, although the numbers obviously don't match the time. Beauty 'n' Blues - pop-up vintage hair and beauty salon in London Posted: 19 Feb 2011 06:08 AM PST If you fancy getting yourself a vintage-style makeover, you should make a note in your diary for March, which is when Beauty 'n' Blues takes place in London. The pop-up salon, hosted by Lipstick and Curls, takes place at Camden's The Blues Kitchen venue on Saturday 12th and 19th March from midday to 5pm, offering 'blues-inspired beauty and Rockabilly glamour'. It coincides with the vintage event The Blues Kitchen's Big Night Out, which you can read all about here. You can go for a classic look, or opt for two new looks especially for Beauty 'n' Blues. The Shangri-La will be a back-combed look similar to a beehive, while the Rockabilly will feature a Betty Page style fringe or 1950s curls. If you have a ticket for the Blues Kitchen event, you can have either look for £10. Otherwise, just bring along your own inspiration, as The Lipstick and Curls Girls specialise in hair and make-up from the 1920s - 1960s, using traditional techniques to create everything from a jazz era flapper girl, a starlet from Hollywood's golden age, a rock n roll pin-up or a Mad Men sex kitten. Kay Bojesen Dog by Rosendahl Posted: 19 Feb 2011 06:00 AM PST We are fans of the 1950s Kay Bojesen wooden animal designs, having featured both the elephant and the monkey in the earliest days of the site. There are others on the market too, including 'new' designs based on the drawings of Bojesen from back in the day. The latest of which is the Kay Bojesen Dog by Rosendahl. Yes, it's a dachshund, this one created in close collaboration with the Bojesen family and 100 per cent in accordance with Kay Bojesen's original drawings and certain to appeal to children and adults alike. eBay watch: 1960s Artemide Pallade space age lamp by Studio Tetrarch Posted: 19 Feb 2011 05:49 AM PST A real gem for lovers of space age design on eBay right now, this Artemide Pallade lamp by Studio Tetrarch. Designed in 1969 and very much in that 'Space 1999' groove, it's also 'as new' and in the original box from when the seller bought it in Italy many years back. A big selling point. Other than that, this is a very cool circular floor or table lamp in white, able to target light from that large open space in the centre, the shell being made of an ABS resin apparently. Downside? You'll need to pay extra shipping if you're not in mainland Europe, while the starting price of 400 Euros is fairly high, but not excessive in light of condition. Ercol for John Lewis Chiltern midcentury-style dining furniture Posted: 19 Feb 2011 05:32 AM PST A midcentury-inspired exclusive on the hugh street, this Ercol for John Lewis Chiltern Dining Furniture. The designs for both the chairs and the table are based in original 1950s Ercol archive designs, with splayed legs and a white painted finish. The chairs are made of ash, with double 'X' stretchers, splayed legs, and criss-crossed spokes in the back. The table is also made of ash, with a smooth rectangular shape with rounded ends.
