Fiat 500 by Gucci

Fiat1

Not content with doing a fashion variation with Diesel, Fiat has now gone high-end with an iconic fashion retailer, producing the Fiat 500 by Gucci.

It follows a similar path judging by the initial snaps. A choice of black and white, both with distinctive contrast stripes, along with matching seatbelts and internal colour scheme, not to mention plenty of Gucci logos and embossed leather seats. It's the fashionista's dream retro car.

Announced for the Milan Fashion Week, it will go public at the Geneva Motor Show on 3rd March. Launch date? Price? We don't know, but we would guess at 'fairly soon' and 'not cheap'. More images over the page.

Vintage Weddings book by Marnie Fogg

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 12:41 PM PST

Vintage

If your planning a vintage twist with your big day, you might want to get your name down for a copy of the forthcoming Vintage Weddings book by Marnie Fogg, which is published by Carlton Books.

According to the pre-release write-up, it's a 'visual journey through 100 years of wedding styles and dresses', looking at key periods, styles and designers, as well as significant ceremonies and cultural influences in wedding fashions. Organised chronologically, the book shows how to recognise the silhouette that will best suit your body shape, how to pick the right fabrics and how to source appropriate accessories, from gloves and shoes to flowers, veils, jewellery and table decorations.

Designed for both the collector and the future bride looking for inspiration, the book is out on 12th May, but available for pre-order now, discounted at Amazon to £16.25.

eBay watch: 1960s G-Plan Astro coffee table

Astro

When it comes to affordable midcentury design, you can't go far wrong with the better end of the G-Plan range. If you dig around, you can find a number of interesting (and always well made) pieces, both at eBay and in secondhand places. This G-Plan Astro coffee table is one of the more common, but also one of the better value designs.

It's a coffee table, first seen in the 1960s and made of teak, that curved wood frame offering some midcentury-style cool, the whole thing finished off by a central piece of glass. It looked good then and it arguably still looks good now.

This one looks in excellent condition, having 'recently been waxed and oiled', with no mention of any kind of damage anywhere. It's no a 'buy it now' for £95. If you miss out or think that's a bit costly, keep looking, they do come up regularly.

1960s Puma Roma trainers gets a reissue in brown leather

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 07:44 AM PST

Roma1

Recently, it's been fairly regular on the reissue circuit, so no surprise to see the Puma Roma trainers back again. Although I've not seen this 1968 classic in this particular colour option before.

The shoe created to celebrate Italian success at the 1968 European Champions is back in brown leather, with what looks like an off-white (or cream) stripe on the side. Aside from that, it's business as usual, with a slim silhouette, some suede detailing, a gum sole and foil print logos.

£64.99 is the price. Another shot over the page.

Lizzie Prestt England-upon-Sea Mug

Normal_DSC00506
Lizzie Prestt is an independent designer who puts her illustrations onto a range of ceramic and fabric products. The design that particularly caught my eye is the England-upon-Sea Mug.

The illustration shows a traditional English seaside scene, with a row of town houses, Big Wheel and ice cream van on the front, whilst the back has a lighthouse. A similar illustration is also available on a tea towel.

The mug costs £10 and the tea towel £9 at Lizzie Prestt's shop on Not on the High Street.

Bakelite Style Alarm Clock

We've featured quite a few alarm clocks recently, but this simple Bakelite Style Alarm Clock has won my affection.

Its design includes an oversized on/off button on the top, which makes it easy to operate while still sleepy. Unfortunately, the green one is already sold out, but you still have the red, orange, cream or pink to choose from.

The alarm clock cost less than £10 from Berry Red.

Tammis Keefe 1950s textile designs reissued

Alligators

Tammis Keefe may not be a household name, certainly in the UK, but in the 1940s and 1950s the American designer was responsible for many popular and cheerful textile designs. Michael Miller have now reissued some of her most distinctive designs for fabric and Fifties enthusiasts.

Fifteen designs have been reissued in total, selected from the work of the prolific designer. The playful Alligator cotton shown above is illustrative of Keefe's style which, in turn, was very typical of the period. Other designs are based around cats, birds and owls.

The fabrics are available from a range of sellers on Etsy, with prices starting for around $8 a yard.

Larkin pine sideboard from Graham and Green

Posted: 24 Feb 2011 06:26 AM PST

Larkin sideboard
This Larkin pine sideboard is part of Graham and Green's new spring collection.

The sideboard has been designed to have a vintage look, with all those drawer handles giving it the look of an old plan chest. However, appearances in this case are deceptive and the sideboard is more suited to twenty-first century storage needs: the sideboard actually is made of just two drawers at the top with two large cupboards below with a central shelf.

Not cheap but, if you like the look, the sideboard costs £875
