After three blockbuster films from Sam Raimi and Toby Maguire, Sony Pictures is going back to the drawing board with a complete reboot. Directed by Marc Webb (500) Days of Summer and starring Andrew Garfield, the film is set during Peter Parker's high school days. Love interest Gwen Stacy will be taking the place of Mary Jane Watson and Spidey will be facing the villainous Lizard as his debut foe.

The controversial move to reboot the franchise has met with some resistance from fans, which is understandable. There will be some other changes as well including a return to web shooter instead of the built-in mutant spinerettes from the Raimi version. But the most important thing fans want to know is what does Garfield look like in the red and blue tights?

Finally we can see for ourselves.

Getting pumped for the new Spider-Man movie yet? Can't wait for July 3, 2012? Then we've got a taste of the web-swinging action with a new photo of star Andrew Garfield decked out in the full Spidey suit, along with word on the film's official title: "The Amazing Spider-Man"! Boy, do we like the ring of that!

Columbia Pictures announced today that the title of the next Spider-Man film will be "The Amazing Spider-Man."

The studio simultaneously released a photo of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, the first shot of Garfield in the famous full mask and suit.

The film, which is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D, will be released on July 3, 2012.  The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.  Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the Marvel Entertainment production for Columbia Pictures. The executive producers are Stan Lee, Kevin Feige, and Michael Grillo.

The film's official website is http://www.TheAmazingSpiderMan-movie.com.

This is technically the second image of Garfield in costume (the first showed an unmasked Peter Parker grimly walking away from a tussle), but the new image is more dynamic and action-oriented... just the thing to get people talking.
