eBay watch: 1960s Austin Healey Sprite

Posted: 05 Mar 2011 09:31 AM PST

Sprite

Lovely little sports car - and this Austin Healey Sprite is ready to drive away, or drive to you.

Dating from 1967 and in a blod red with a soft top, the car has a 1098cc engine, chrome bumpers, leather seats and around 51,000 miles on the clock. The interior is described as 'excellent' and the hood is 'as good as new'. In fact, according to the seller, there are just a 'couple of small cosmetics' that need sorting, which are pictured on the site.

No bids as yet, with a starting price of £100. If you win, you can pick it up or the welled will drive it to your home at cost.

Cosmos

If you want this, you'll have to be quick, as the Cosmos Shade at Dutch By Design is reduced, because it's about to be discontinued.

It's another take on the classic 1960s Sputnik light fitting, with this version of the space-inspired light fitting offering up a whopping 24 bulbs on those chrome arms, which in turn are fitted to a central 'ball'.

The whole thing is around 65cm high and 31.3cm wide, usually selling for £145. But as it's the last couple, £85 is the price if you're quick.

1950s-inspired Whitby wallpaper by Mini Moderns

Posted: 05 Mar 2011 03:55 AM PST

Minimoderns1

Yes, we know we've mentioned them already this week, but Mini Moderns are more than worthy of another mention for this very hip Whitby wallpaper.

We're deep in the 1950s, with the wallpaper inspired by '50s linocuts, as well as the vibrancy of that particular fishing port 'back in the day'. Fishing boats, hungry seagulls and the crashing of the waves all combining to create something that's both retro and stylish.

The wallpaper comes in 10m x 52cm rolls, printed with waterbased inks on paper from sustained forests. Four new colourways to choose from - Washed Denim, Awning Red, Stone and Lido. Two are above, the other two are pictured over the page. The price is £45 per roll and is available before the month is out.

Sir Peter Blake: Twenty Years of Printmaking in Harrogate

Posted: 05 Mar 2011 03:42 AM PST

Blake

A regular around the capital, Sir Peter Blake is seen much less 'up north'. So the Sir Peter Blake Twenty Years of Printmaking exhibition in Harrogate, Yorkshire is well worth an entry in your diary if that's where you live.

It takes place at the RedHouse Originals Gallery, 15 Cheltenham Mount, Harrogate from 12th March - 10th April, with previews on Friday 11th March. Sir Peter will be there for that to open the exhibition, as will the double decker CCA Art Bus with Blake exterior. There will also be the unveiling of a new portrait and print edition called Boogie For Stu, featuring Ian Stewart, the legendary keyboardist and co-founder of The Rolling Stones.

Aside from that, there will be selection of prints available to view and buy, including some of the rarest and most sought after original and limited edition prints Blake has produced. Highlights include the artist's portraits of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and his seminal artwork for The Beatles' 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Note that the Boogie For Stu artwork will be available to pre-order as a limited edition silkscreen print with proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation's 'Mending Broken Hearts' campaign.

Adidas Beckenbauer trainers back in white and Columbia blue finish

Posted: 05 Mar 2011 02:29 AM PST

Beckenbauer

There was a reissue late last year, but the latest version of the classic Adidas Beckenbauer trainers (aka the Beckenbauer Allround) is definitely one for the summer months.

As you probably know, the Beckenbauer is named after the legendary Franz, designed back in 1982 as an all-round football and training shoe, before gaining added popularity as a casual and terrace classic.

This is a superb reissue in white with 'Columbia blue' detailing from the archives, with a leather upper and high impact training outsole, all finished off with gold branding and the Adidas in green on that sole. £59 is the pre-order price.
