River Island relaunch Chelsea Girl range

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 11:34 AM PDT

Chelseagirl2011

Though many high street brands have injected some vintage inspiration into individual pieces of late, it's River Island that's ahead of the pack with their Chelsea Girl range. Taking on the name and image of River Island circa 1965, we loved some of their 2010 items, and the relaunched 2011 fare looks set to impress.

Taking inspiration from the brand's own archive designs, the line offers 60s, 70s and 80s looks with a sprinkling of modern cut and fabric choice. From the original UK fashion chain, expect easy to wear pieces that are unmistakeably retro. Shown above are two of their sixties looks, paving the way for some impressive looks at high street prices.

The line launches in River Island stores and online on the 24th of March, with Selfridges planning an exclusive pop-up shop too.

Halterbikini

As always the Spring/Summer collections of high street retailers has reached us before the sunshine in Britain, with plenty of inspiring choices for that holiday you're considering. This Blue Halterneck Bikini from George at Asda is a great retro choice for the coming months, at the brand's usual bargain prices.

The shape of the two-piece takes obvious inspiration from fifties pinup styles, with a halterneck and twist at the bustline. The full briefs tie the ensemble together, finished in a blue bright enough to stand out among the most tropical of backdrops.

Get it from George at Asda now for just £10, sold as separates.

eBay watch: 1970s space age Guzzini table lamp

Guzzini

This is a stunning design, as well as a rare one - so this original Guzzini table lamp is well worth the money.

Dating back to the 1970s and perfect for that 'Space 1999' look, this particular lamp was inherited by the seller and is described as being in 'full working order' and 'superb condition' for both chrome and shade. There's also the original double switch attached and a couple of brand new light bulbs for it.

Some great close-up shots on the listing page, with a current price of £87 right now.

Fishcondo

Regular readers will remember that we featured the Umbra Fishcondo when it was discounted at Achica just after Christmas. Well, Achica has just started another Umbra sale for the next day or so - and the Fishcondo is discounted once more.

As we mentioned back then, this is a modernist-style house for your fish, designed by Teddy Luong and with the option to add other floors by simply buying an extra one. The inner glass bowl is removable for cleaning, with the outer shell made of durable ABS plastic.

Achica has it discounted until the end of tomorrow, down from £49 to £25. Note that you'll have to sign up to view (and buy from) Achica, but that's free and very quick if you've not done it before. Fish, of course, are extra.

Surface View Vintage Collection - inspired by Vintage At Goodwood

Posted: 16 Mar 2011 08:01 AM PDT

Pop

According to the company, the Surface View Vintage Collection of artwork is inspired by the Vintage At Goodwood event. Which makes it a little behind the times, as the event has now left that location and headed for London.

Not to worry, the art is still worth a look if you want something quirky and inspired by the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. We love the Pop image above, which is available as a canvas, mounted print or just as a print.

Prices vary on size and format, but start at £105.
