eBay watch: 1970s Colani UFO ceiling light in orange

Posted: 05 Apr 2011 12:26 PM PDT

Colani

We did feature one of these back in 2010, but we've not seen a Colani UFO ceiling light in orange before.

it certainly looks impressive in that colour, along with the contrasting clear panels. Not bad condition either for something well over 30 years old. This 1970s space age classic in what's described as 'used but very good' condition - some minor wear, but nothing you would notice without a close inspection.

Check out loads of images on the listing and if you like it, the current price is £24.

7GAE5_model

There are a plethora of jumpsuits in the shops this season but none calls to mind Bianca Jagger circa 1977 like French Connection's Venetta Drape Jumpsuit.

Beautifully cut from silver satin the jumpsuit has a great shape with a wrap-over detail at the bust, cummerband-style waistband and kimono sleeves that give way to a sleek, tailored leg shape. It's a fabulous single piece that creates head to toe glamour and needs nothing in the way of accessories but a dash of red lipstick and your favourite pair of sky-scraper heels.

The jumpsuit costs £120 from French Connection - check it out online here

Lace Babydoll Dress from Dorothy Perkins

Lacebabydoll

Thanks to the eighties revival of recent years, lace has made its way back into the mainstream of fashion. It's finally being used for a wider variety of looks, delving further into fashion history for inspiration to the 1960s with this Lace Babydoll Dress from Dorothy Perkins.

The dress has an instantly early sixties cut, with three quarter sleeves, a short full skirt and high neckline creating a cutesy retro silhouette that was found on both sides of the pond at the time. The daisy print lace adds a textural edge to the simple cut, finished in a shade of red that's just daring enough to stop this being too girlish.

It's available now from Dorothy Perkins for £42.

Tooledleatherbag

Cross body bags have been a mainstay in women's fashion for decades, taking original inspiration from military clothing into the mainstream. Each era has added its own take to the style, with seventies influence shown in this Tooled Leather Bag from Wallis.

Made from a deep brown shade of 100% leather, the tooling detail adds the retro appeal to this satchel style. The punched design showcases the seventies' love of Eastern influence, tapping into the post-sixties folk look to create a stylish and durable accessory for everyday use.

It's available now from Wallis for £38.

Bpllight

The Rotaliana BPL Light by Camilla Diedrich was designed in 2005, but, like many white pendant lights, it has a space-age 1960s look to it.

The globe has been hand woven from white polyester, which has been knotted wooden casts and put in a steam oven, to create the little bubble effect. It is available in two sizes, 39cm in diameter (£606) or 65cm (£1024).

Iittala Maribowl

Iittala-rose-olive-maribowl-155-mm
Iittala's Maribowl is a classic of Finnish design, having been in production since the 1960s, and also has associations with that other great Finnish design company, Marimekko, as its founder , Armi Ratia, made the bowls even more desirably by using them at her famous garden parties.

Perhaps some of the Maribowl's continued popularity is that it works as either a decorative item or a functional serving bowl – I'm picturing it filled with a huge ice cream sundae. It is available in a variety of different colours with the price being dependent on how difficult it to manufacture glass in that colour, red being the most tricky pigment to use.

Prices range from £16 for smaller Maribowls in shades of blue, green and grey through to £49 for a deep red colour, with shades of yellow, orange and brown priced somewhere in between, at Hus and Hem.
