Pleated Goddess Dress by Halston Heritage

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 10:30 AM PDT

Halstongoddess

Of the many legendary designers who defined the 1970s, it may just be the designs of Halston that most define the decade for many of us. Creating silhouettes, innovative fabric uses and a sense of high luxury that remains a signifier of the disco era, it can only be a welcome thing to have many of the designs back to buy thanks to Halston Heritage.

Delving into the Halston archives, they're bringing us designs inspired by the originals, but made from modern fabrics that allow for a perfected fit and feel. This Goddess Dress has a decadent Grecian feel, in a bronzed pleated fabric that flows with your walk.

It's available online in the UK from My Wardrobe for £472.

Spotplaysuit

All in one playsuits and jumpsuits were almost impossible to find on the high street or from retro designers just a few years ago, but now they're available in abundance thanks to the ever-expanding influence of vintage fashion on the mainstream.

This Spot Print Jumpsuit from Oasis is a cutesy and easy to wear summer version, basing its style on fifties and sixties looks. The halter neck design ensures a feminine balance to the city shorts style of the bottom, while a mid shade of red adds a classic and luxurious feel.

It's available now from Oasis for £50.

I don't know about you, but I know everyone in my class went through a craze for bubble writing back in the 1980s, so this book "How to be the Best Bubble Writer in the World Ever" by Linda Scott brought back some childhood memories.

The book devotes a double page spread to each of the hand-drawn typefaces it features, with one page devoted to the alphabet in that style and the other page showing the inspiration behind it. The book contains various activities to get you doodling creatively.

Buy it from Amazon for £6.12.

eBay watch: Reissued Harvey Guzzini Sorella space age table lamp by Nemo

Not the first time we've featured the design, as the Sorella table lamp by Harvey Guzzini has been something of a space age holy grail in the past. Not so anymore, as Nemo has bought the rights to this classic 1970s lamp and is selling official reissues right now.

Which essentially means much the same lamp for a fraction of the cost - these angled lamps tended to go for hundreds on eBay on good condition. If you aren't familiar with the Sorella, you don't watch enough old films and TV - this 1972 'Studio Tecnico Harvey' design featured prominently in the likes of Space 1999 and James Bond's Moonraker and still retains that futuristic look today.

Best of all with the new ones is the colour, no age discolouration here and of course, all the electrics will be checked and ready to go. Not too many sellers around in the UK, but Glasgow-based Spatial Lighting are official Nemo dealers and have stock of the new light right now, which they are selling at a fixed price online via eBay. A little cheaper than most too at £120. See the lamp 'in action' in Space 1999 over the page.

Once Upon a Time wallpaper by Tres Tintas

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 01:19 AM PDT

Once-Upon-A-Time-wallpaper

A contemporary kid's wallpaper, with a nostalgic 1950s look, this Once Upon a Time wallpaper by Tres Tintas is sure to capture your child's imagination.

The wallpaper is covered with the kind of imagery that could have come straight out of a kid's storybook: robots and spacemen mingle with zebras, carousel horses and tea cups. It's definitely a design that looks backwards for its subject matter and illustrative style.

The retro look is enhanced by the colour scheme: the paper is available with the blue background shown, or a light taupe.

It costs £65 a roll.

God Save Our Grannies cushion from The TeaShed

Grannies cushion

We've already featured some of the quirky designs from The TeaShed, now punk graphics get something of a surprising treatment with this God Save Our Grannies cushion

Yes, the cushion offers a new take on Jamie Reid's artwork, replace the image of the Queen with a friendly looking granny. While the Sex Pistols may have been being subversive, this cushion is entirely well-meaning, part of a campaign to encourage people to have a cup of tea with an elderly person.

The design is hand screen-printed onto the cushion, which has a duck feather filling.

The cushion costs £40.

Trainspotters NYC Walk/Don't Walk Street Signs

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 01:18 AM PDT

An amazing opportunity to own a piece of New York iconography comes in the shape of these original Walk/Don't Walk Street Signs from industrial salvage specialists Trainspotters.

These classic signs have never been used as they were in storage when the decision was taken in 1999 to decomission this style of sign and replace it with an LED graphic version. Made of cast aluminum and vandal-proof glass (and weighing a hefty 6.8kg) the signs have been fitted with new circuitry and flash at timed intervals. They can be either wall-mounted or suspended.

Owning a piece of NYC history will set you back a hefty £925 + VAT. Find out more here.
