Embellishedvest

While seventies fashion is the order of the day for most of this Summer's high street designs, there's still plenty of alternative vintage influence available for those willing to do some digging. This Embellished Vest Dress from Miss Selfridge offers an unmistakeable flapper style that doesn't fall for the usual clichés.

The drop waisted, loose dress shape is ideal for creating that twenties and thirties androgynous silhouette. With a vest-sleeve to provide some daring flesh on show, the nude pink tone is an ideal base for the sparkling embellishment that takes art deco lines as its inspiration.

Pop Girl Dress by Marmalade

Popgirl

While bold prints and wild colour combinations are often the go-to for many designers for summer retro fodder, there's nothing quite so effective as well chosen structure and colour blocking. Creating a cool and effortlessly chic sixties style, this Pop Girl Dress by Marmalade gets it spot on.

The dress structure is simplistic, but never boring, with a cool mod-inspired shift shape that's tailored to perfection. While the orange shade is instantly vintage-look, the inclusion of contrasting white piping adds shape, while highlighting the bow detailing at the chest.

Roddy and Ginger Pomegranate Design

Posted: 20 Jun 2011 06:24 AM PDT

300
We've mentioned a few Roddy and Ginger products in the past, so were pleased to see that they've produced a few new designs including this Pomegranate Tree Print.

Like the tapestry mentioned below, the design is very much in the Scandinavian folk art style. It has been hand screen-printed in teal, olive and grey. The print measures 40cm by 50cm. The same design is also available in cushion form, with a choice of grey/red, grey/teal or grey/ochre on either white or natural linen.

The print costs £35 and the cushions cost £26, all from the Roddy and Ginger website.

Scandi Scene Tapestry

Scandiscene
Just the name alone should be enough to tell you that the Scandi Scene Tapestry has been heavily influenced by vintage Scandinavian design.

The large woven cotton sheeting tapestry features a bright folkloric pattern with birds, tree and flowers. It can be put to variety of uses: hung on the wall; used as a chair covering or as throw for your bed. It measures 100 inches long by 84 inches wide and would fit a Queen-sized bed if that is how you want to use it.

It costs $39 from Urban Outfitters.

Peggy

Many retro-styled dresses out there a perfect for parties & summer picnics but vintage chic suitable for the office is an area that's often overlooked.

Designer Michelle Tan creates vintage inspired frocks that look as if they were plucked straight from the Mad Men costume department. The Peggy dress in particular would look picture perfect wandering the corridors of Sterling Cooper. The oversized collar & faux pockets with red stripe accents give the plain navy an understated flair. An ideal way to bring a slice of retro refinement to the office, no matter how far your place of work may from 60s Madison Avenue.

The Peggy dress is made to order to your measurements and is available with short or ¾ length sleeves. $120 from Michelle Tan's Etsy store.

John Lewis summer folk bowls

Summer folk

Wanting to entertain in style once the sun comes out again? Take a look at John Lewis's summer folk bowls. Made from melamine, they're ideally suited for a spot of outdoor entertaining.

However, it's the colour and the design that really attracted us. As their name might suggest, the style looks towards the Scandinavian folk look. More specifically, the pattern is reminiscent of the Cathrineholm Lotus pattern of the 1960s, executed in bright, eye catching colours that are perfect for sunny days.

A large bowl costs £4.80, while you can buy a small bowl for £2.40.

Elde tea towel

It's a classy piece of design which looks like it would be more at home on the wall than in the kitchen but in fact this '50s style tea towel is from H&M

Designer Anna Karin-Elde has depicted two ceramics, drawn in a sketchy fifties style. The simple design is then printed onto 100% organic cotton.

You'd expect H&M to be cheap but in fact this design is on sale so it's even more of a bargain, costing just £3.49.
