Banana Republic to launch official Mad Men Collection for men and women

Posted: 24 Jun 2011 03:43 PM PDT

Plenty of labels have produced Man Men-inspired clothing, but from this August, there's an official Mad Men capsule collection hitting the shelves, courtesy of Banana Republic, of all people.

According to Style Bistro, the new line will launch in the US in late summer, presumably hitting the European version of the store not long after. It's been designed by Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant too, so not just some branding exercise.

According to the initial publicity, it's a 65-piece collection for both sexes, including high-waisted skirts, tailored dresses, trench coats and silk blouses for women, plus tailored menswear, including sweaters, suits, overcoats - even a dinner jacket. Accessories too, including hates, pocket squares and money clips.

August 11th is that US date - as soon as the European details are confirmed, we'll let you know. In the meantime, check out those early images.

All-new Lambretta LN scooter priced for UK

Posted: 24 Jun 2011 11:47 AM PDT

Lam1

Regular readers might remember that we featured the return of the Lambretta at the back end of last year. Well, the details of the Lambretta LN scooter launch are starting to take shape - with details of a new Lambretta LS scooter also emerging.

First up, the LN scooter, which has now landed at selected dealers ahead of the full launch. One of those is WK Bikes wkbikes.com, which will have the LN 125. There's an LN 150 to follow later in the year. Both are 'twist and go' automatic scooters, mixing that with old school looks reminiscent of the original using plastic and metal.

Not as cheap as you think though. Made in Taiwan and imported into the UK, the Lambretta LN 125 sells for around £3,300. Ouch. Look out for a twin-seated LS scooter too - that's pictured over the page and will come in 50cc and 125cc models. Likely to be cheaper, but we suspect not by a huge amount.

The Skitsch Wood Table Lamp is made from thin strips of teak. The angle of the shade can be changed to alter the way the light falls. It measures 52cm diameter by 62cm high. If you fancy a bigger one, there is a floor standing version at 179cm tall. The table version costs just over £580, whilst the floor lamp cost nearly a thousand more.

If the scramble for Olympics tickets has left you disappointed and disillusioned with the 2012 event, then perhaps this new title from Shire books might suffice.

"London Olympics: 1908 and 1948" looks back at the other two occasions when the capital has hosted the games. London stepped into host the games in 1908 when Italy had to pull out because Vesuvius had erupted. The entire budget for the 1948 Games was £760,000, and they turned a profit of £29,000.

Comme des Garcons x The Beatles clothing and accessories range

It's made in very limited numbers in Japan, it's made by Comme des Garcons and it has the Fab Four's official stamp on it. You just know this Comme des Garcons x The Beatles clothing and accessories range isn't going to come cheap.

But if you love the band and like a bit of exclusivity, it could be for you. The range includes Apple / The Beatles-branded t-shirts, polo shirts and a rather pricey, but very eye-catching transparent tote bag, which you can see over the page.

But the most interesting design is this reworked Comme des Garçons x The Beatles Spring Court plimsoll. We have featured the originals in the past, which were popular with '60s mods and worn by John Lennon on the cover of Abbey Road. The new version has both the Apple and Beatles logos, plus the exclusivity of course. However, this limited edition is almost three times the price of the basic version at £110, so maybe for the hardcore fan only.

eBay watch: 1950s midcentury-style wooden cabinet

Posted: 24 Jun 2011 10:41 AM PDT

50s

So far, this 1950s midcentury-style wooden cabinet is something of a steal. Here's hoping that's the case when the auction ends.

It's not a designer piece, but it is an interesting design, with those four angles legs, two drawers and a pull-down lower section for extra storage.

No mention of the kind of wood here, but the condition is described as 'very good' with 'light wear' on the top section. Want it? Right now, it's at just £9. Check out the seller's other items too, plenty of other pieces from a similar era too.

Ben de Lisi vintage telephone cushion from Debenhams

Telephone cushion

An unlikely source but this Ben de Lisi designed vintage telephone cushion has a good retro look. Produced as part of the designer's range for Debenhams, the image of a classic dial telephone is printed onto the front of the cushion.

The telephone is depicted in a vibrant red contrasting to the white background and black piping of the cushion. If you like this, there's an accompanying design featuring another object of vintage affections - the typewriter.

The cushion is in the Debenhams sale and is currently available for £14.40.

Music Business canvas print by Dale Edwin Murray

A striking piece of music-inspired art with this Music Business canvas print by Dale Edwin Murray.

The piece by this London-based illustrator has a clear 60s influence - it depicts the sleeve of a sharply suited man merging into the form of a vinyl record. The design is printed onto canvas which makes it even more of a statement piece - and no need to bother about framing either.

The canvas is limited to 250 copies and costs £99.
