Polka Dot Shift Dress from River Island

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 10:15 AM PDT

RIshiftdress

With the summer truly in full swing, simple and stylish frocks are always the order of the day to keep cool in more than one sense of the word. This Polka Dot Shift Dress from River Island is an ideal choice, with plenty of mid-sixties chic and practicality combined.

The shift cut instantly creates a mod-style silhouette, with a sleeveless cut and high neckline providing balance to the more feminine A-line skirt and mini hemline. Finished in a light green polka dot, the addition of a contrasting bow detail at the bust adds that youthful feel of the mid-sixties with ease.

It's available from River Island for £39.99.

Sadie Flower Headband from Boohoo

Sadieheadband

With festival season in full swing, the high street has once again turned to that most iconic of events in music festival history, Woodstock, for inspiration. That's ideal news for lovers of the hippy aesthetic of the late sixties, with pieces like this Sadie Flower Headband from Boohoo on the market.

The headband is simple but unmistakeable in its vintage inspiration and looks, taking the feel of genuine flower headbands without the trouble of the inevitable wilting. The result is a truly hippy-inspired look that doesn't veer too far into the clichés that many sixties retro items can fall for.

1960s-style Large Bow Lamp at Made.com

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 08:01 AM PDT

Bow

You'll be paying the best part of £1,500 for an authentic Flos reissue of the Arco floor lamp, so this variation on the theme, going by the name of the Large Bow Lamp, is quite an attractive proposition.

Of course, this isn't a replica of the 1962 Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni classic, but it does offer the look for a fraction of the price. In this case, you get that same hanging lamp, sat on a marble base, the lamp itself made of stainless steel and chrome. It is able to adjust in reach, but stands around 198cm tall and 172cm wide in total.

Great for reading or just for dramatic effect in a room. Usually, this particular version sells for £199, but if you order off Made in the next five days, you can get one for just £99.

Marilyn limited edition silkscreen print by Richard Duardo

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 07:44 AM PDT

Mar

He's perhaps best known as a printer, working with the likes of Banksy, Shepard Fairey, David Hockney and Keith Haring in the past. But Richard Duardo is also an artist in his own right - and this Marilyn limited edition silkscreen print is one of his pieces.

The work of the 'West-Coast Warhol' (as he's known) are colourful pop art-style prints of pop culture icons - and they don't get much more iconic than Marilyn Monroe. The print is from a signed limited edition of 100, sized at 37x 24 inches, available framed or unframed.

If you want the unframed version, it sells for £320.

eBay watch: Vintage Sirram complete picnic set

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 07:36 AM PDT

Picnic

If nothing else, we are at least topical. So on a warm day, we've found the perfect accessory - this vintage Sirram complete picnic set.

The seller's description isn't overly detailed, so I don't know if everything is original. I suspect it all is - it all fits and it all matches, which is always a good start. That includes two flasks, various containers, cups, cutlery and plates.

Condition looks good, with the possible exception of the case fasteners. They probably just need a good clean though. £35 is the current bid price.

Ink Blot Plates from Luna & Curious

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 04:58 AM PDT

300

Inspired by the Rorschach psychological tests, popular in the 1960's, these Ink Blot Plates from Luna & Curious will reveal your dinner guests' innermost secrets.

In the original tests, a subject was shown various indistinct ink blots and asked to describe what they saw. Their interpretations of the images were used to draw conclusions about their personality and emotional state. Taking her inspiration from the test, designer Kaoru Parry has created  four different designs: "Fox", "Rabbit", "Horse" and "Butterfly". They are made of bone china and hand painted in genuine 22 carat gold.

The plates cost £20 each and you can buy them from Luna & Curious here.

50s-style printed scarves from Tate

Posted: 28 Jun 2011 03:07 AM PDT

Tate scarves
New in at the Tate Museum shop are these 50s-style printed scarves.

They've been produced to accompany the current Miro exhibition at Tate Modern. Miro's art influenced the designs of Lucienne Day, amongst many others, so it's hardly surprising that these scarves nod towards her work. Made from 100% linen, they are decorated with a pattern that uses the sketchy, skeletal forms so associated with 50s designs.

Available in three colours, the scarves cost £45 each.

We featured the Casalino chair a while back, when it started being reproduced again using the original moulds, but did you know that there's also a kids version of this Alexander Begge design

Yes, this classic piece of space age design is available sized for children. These chairs are also made using the original moulds, dating back to the 1970s. It shares its shape and material with the grown-up version so also shares some of the designs practical advantages: it's suitable for outdoor use and is stackable.

The kid's version comes in two sizes, take your pick from 'Junior' or 'Toddler' depending on the size of your offspring.

The chairs cost £88 each.
