Block Heel Sandals from Wallis

Blocksandal

For seventies chic there's nothing that quite lifts an outfit like footwear inspired by the era, providing an instant transformation for everything from flares to maxi dresses. That doesn't mean every pair has to be a dangerously stacked platform, though, as proven by these seventies-look Block Heel Sandals from Wallis.

The use of a thick-heeled, wood effect sole helps to create a mainstream retro chic instantly, with patent leather uppers in a classic burnt orange have that playful decadence of disco influence down pat. The chunky straps and t-bar are an ideal post-sixties style point, providing practicality and comfort at the same time.

Get yours from Wallis for £45.

Beaded Flapper Dress from ASOS SALON

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 10:00 AM PDT

Asossalonflapper

When thinking of pre-war 20th century fashion, perhaps the most iconic trend in womenswear was flapper style, taking a daring new edge into the mainstream. With most high street interpretations leaning on often costumey fringed dresses, this Beaded Flapper Dress from ASOS SALON is miles ahead of the pack.

Taken from their vintage inspired SALON range, this twenties styled piece takes inspiration from Art Deco structure in the lines and shapes of both the beading pattern and dress cut. With a drop waist and loose fit to create the androgyny, the daring aspect of flapper style is taken care of by a cut out back and luxurious beading throughout.

It's available now from ASOS online for £180.

Louise Body "Paper Tiles" Wallpaper

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 09:27 AM PDT

Mixedfolkfullsize1
If you hanker for authentic victorian tiles but lack the time and inclination to install them, this Paper Tiles wallpaper from British designer Louise Body could be the solution.

A clever trompe l'oeil print creates the effect of vintage aged tiles without the hassle of cement and grout and the paper used is tough enough to be used in place of ceramics. The design incorporates original Victorian tiles but with the addition of hand-drawn flowers for a contemporary twist.

The tiles in the design measure 17.5 x 17.5cm

This design is one of ten, all printed on to hard-wearing paper sourced from managed forests. The paper costs £20 a metre.

Fiat500

If you want something a little more authentic than the recent reissue, check out this fully-restored Fiat 500 classic on eBay right now, which could prove a bargain if you get it at the right price.

The car dates back to 1967, a right-hand drive model with 499cc engine, soft top and a blue paint job matched up with a grey and cream interior, a one-off finish for the seller. According to the same seller, it has had a 'complete new brake system and many new parts' and comes with a year's MOT and tax.

An eye-catching car, that's for sure and on eBay right now at £3,000. The seller claims 'it cost me a lot more to put it on the road 4 years ago', which we can well believe.

Marooned on Mongo cushions by Diffraction Fiber on Etsy

Marooned on Mongo

It's a not-so-secret fact that we love retro sci-fi, particularly the sort that involve shaky sets, dodgy special effects and not-so-scary monsters. Of course, no far-fetched adventure in outer space would be complete without ray guns.

If you're the sort of person who worries that giant spiders or robots may come knocking at your door some day, you'll need these b-movie inspired Marooned on Mongo cushions from Diffraction Fiber on Etsy. Made of eco-felt (produced from recycled plastic bottles), this set of handcut cushions feature a space age ray gun on one and an old school Batman-esque sound effect 'Pew! Pew!' bubble on the other. We can't promise you that it'll protect you from an army of martians but you can at least bash them over the head with it.

The pair are $40 from Diffraction Fiber's Etsy store.

Golden Lane II print by Stefi Orazi

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 03:35 AM PDT

GoldenlaneestateII

In celebration of the fifth birthday of Things You Can Buy, Stefi Orazi has produced a new print - Golden Lane II.

Orazi has paid a visit to this 1950s-designed housing estate a number of times, not least in the four different designs she produced for the card set. It's no wonder, as the coloured panels of the maisonette frontage work really well in the piece, contrasting with the strict lines of the architecture.

This print is limited to an edition of 100 and the print costs £110.

Albany Catwalk retro clocks wallpaper

Posted: 29 Jun 2011 03:27 AM PDT

Albany clocks

The new Albany Catwalk wallpaper collection features this striking design, based around five different retro clocks.

The clocks range from the very distinctive Vitra ball clock style design and a mid-century starburst number, to more neutral minimal designs.

This black and white is the most subdued of the colour combinations available: you can also get this design as metallic teal printed clocks on black, or metallic orange on a chocolate brown background. Those two colourways certainly have more of a retro feel, but possibly have too much impact for the average room.

The wallpaper costs £19.99 a roll.
