Doctor Who Tardis wardrobe

Tardis

Into geek chic? You need the wardrobe to store it all in - and you don't get better than this Doctor Who Tardis wardrobe.

Yes, your very own Tardis, albeit a canvas effect one with a single rail for your clobber and double opening zipable doors. Downside? It's the same size inside as it is outside, so no room for all your household junk as well as your clothes sadly.

Saying that, it's a great talking point as well as a potential plaything for your kids. Price? £69.99.

Kategarey

When it comes to the more functional items in life, like luggage and cosmetics cases, it can be tempting to opt for the sturdy but unstylish for the sake of ease. There's no excuse not to indulge in something more chic, however, with affordably priced gems like these Tattoo Make-Up Bags by British designer Kate Garey.

Small but sufficiently roomy, both bags take inspiration from a kitschy 50s pin-up style, with the tattoo inspired embroidery providing an instantly cute retro feel. With each backed by a fifties style print, too, the bags make a stylish little addition to any handbag or travel set.

They're available now from Dollydagger, sold separately at £14.99 each. For a limited time, however, the Mermaid version is on sale at £6.

eBay watch: 1960s chrome plant stand

Posted: 18 Jul 2011 09:05 AM PDT

Plant

If you've got a 60s-inspired room and want something with impact for a corner, this 1960s chrome plant stand could be just the thing.

It's unusual, most plant stands we see are of the 1950s / formica variety, rather than this one, which almost certainly from the '60s or early 1970s. The chrome frame stands around 38 inches tall, with those chromes arms featuring 'smoked' plastic stands at the end of each arm, four in total.

The chrome is said to be in good condition, aside from light pitting through age, while one of the plastic stands has a chip, which is highlighted on the images. £15.50 is the current price, if you want it in your home.

Putney1

Got money to spare? Love art deco? We have the house for you, this five-bedroomed art deco property on Putney Heath, London SW15. But you will need an awful lot of spare cash.

Little is given away about the property's heritage, but it looks 'right' despite extensive modernisation, especially the structure, the windows and the doors, which all faithful to the original era. Talking of art deco features, there's a spiral staircase on there too.

Putney2

In an 'enviable location' by Putney Heath, the house has landscaped gardens, a double garage and off-road parking outside. Inside, you'll find an entrance hall with that feature spiral staircase, a very large reception room, an equally spacious kitchen/dining room, a master bedroom with fitted wardrobes, four additional bedrooms, three bathrooms, a second kitchen, two utility rooms, a guest cloakroom and extensive storage space. All of that on a road that's apparently a 'pretty tree-lined cul-de-sac'. Nice.

Anglepoise-634

On Wednesday the Design Museum is opening a new exhibition devoted to the work of Kenneth Grange. As you'd expect, the shop is stocking some great related product including this exclusive version of the Anglepoise Lamp Type 1228.

We've featured Grange's update of the Anglepoise, the Type 1228 when it was launched a few years back. The museum's version replaces the green shade with a cheery daffodil yellow shade for an alternative take on a classic design.

With thirty of the lamps in stock, invest in one for £185.

Stoke Newington by Motor-bus print

Visit stoke newington
This Stoke Newington by Motor-bus print may sound like something dating back to the early twentieth century but in fact is a contemporary design - though one that draws on the style of classic travel posters.

Designed by Beyond Thrilled, it's the first in their new series looking at different districts of London. The image shows Stoke Newington as it looks today. However, it's then given a retro feel by a green or a pink colourwash, overlaid with transport poster style typography to create an interesting piece of art.

The print costs £60.

This second run of the print is available as a limited edition of 60 and is selling like hot cakes, so snap one up before they're all gone.

Many of the most iconic designs from everyday life are the work of one man - designer Kenneth Grange. In fact, his work is currently being celebrated by the Making Britain Modern exhibition at the Design Museum in London, with some interesting artwork by Tom Rowe to go alongside it.

Grange has designed everything from the Intercity 125 train to the Morphy Richards iron, with the pick of those designs making it into poster form the exhibition. The Intercity 125 train (A3 size) and Kodak Instamatic 233 (A3 size) are above, with the Reuters keyboard (A3) and a collage of leading designs (A1) featured over the page.

Available at the Design Museum Store, prices are from £15.
