1980s Puma x Shadow Society States trainers

According to the blurb, 'The Shadow Society is a secretive group of Puma aficionados'. Don't know about that, but we like the look of these Puma x Shadow Society States trainers.

The States were the UK variation of the Puma suede in the 1980s, the name coming from the place of origin. This reissue, using the original shape, looks every bit the 80s gem, with premium suede uppers, a contrast form stripe and two sets of laces. The one big difference is the limited edition Shadow Society printed lace bag that comes with it.

Two colourways, both highly limited and both selling for £69.

Ingo Maurer-inspired Watt table lamp at John Lewis

Watt

One of the first things we ever wrote about back in 2006 was (and still is) one of our favourite designs - the Ingo Maurer Bulb table lamp. Price, as with most design classics, was the main issue. Not so this new design inspired by that 1960s gem - the Watt table lamp at John Lewis.

It's not a copy, but if you want the look for a fraction of the price. This is certainly it. Yes, it's a glorified bulb, this one standing around 28cm high, with a brushed chrome finish and a red fabric cord. The light comes from an 18w halogen bulb.

An Ingo Maurer original costs well in excess of £900. But you can pick up the Watt table lamp at John Lewis for just £40.

eBay watch: 1970s Guzzini Baobab lamp by Ufficio Progetti

Guz

Not one of our finds, this is credited to Andrew Graham, who spotted this Guzzini Baobab lamp by Ufficio Progetti despite its misleading title.

The lamp certainly isn't a Joe Colombo design, despite what the listing says, although you can see why this 1978 Italian design would have been associated with the great man.

Anyway, back to the lamp, which could be a potential steal. Standing 25 inches tall and around 18 inches wide, it has a large spherical shade made of a high pressure moulded opal acrylic, with the conical base constructed from a powder coated metal. Inside, there's room for two bulbs.

In excellent condition, according to the seller, with only one or two light scratches to the shade which can't be seen unless searched closely. Just 99 pence right now.

Spineless Classics Prints

 The-Great-Gatsby-_285767_h500

I was sceptical on first seeing these Spineless Classic Prints. Could a whole novel really fit into one print?

As F Scott Fitzgerald's tale of the 1920s is one of my favourite books anyway, I was naturally drawn to The Great Gatsby print which has the words laid out as a profile of eponymous character with his beloved Rolls Royce. This is a fairly short book so I was willing to believe it could be done, but then I discovered that amongst the extensive range, War and Peace has been given the same treatment – although it is understandably spread across four prints rather than just one. There is a quite a wide range of texts to chose from including children's classics, plays and a couple of non-fiction titles too.

Prices vary according to the length of the book/size of the print, but the Gatsby costs £44.99. Visit the Spineless Classics website to see all the choices.

Wenko Autumn Shower Curtain

Retro shower curtains tend to lean towards novelty, but this Wenko Shower Curtain in Autumn has a more unusual midcentury look to it.

The print consists of trees and leaves in shades of blue, yellow and brown that reminds me of some of Ferm Living's designs. It certainly makes a nice change from the usual seaside/underwater themes of most bathrooms.

It is available to buy for £19.95 from Amazon.
