Soundandvision

If you haven't yet been along to the Postmodernism exhibition at the V&A, we heartily recommend you make your way down there post haste. There really is something for everyone who loves the 70s to the 90s, from architecture & consumables to fashion & popular culture.

Classics from the likes of David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Joy Division & Devo are all on there with many other legends of the period. The album was compiled at London's Abbey Road Studios, contains hard to find mixes and is accompanied by essays from the exhibition's curator. It's also available on CD for those with the audacity to not own a record player.

Available as a limited edition of 500. £25 from V&A Shop. See the website for more details.

eBay watch: Vintage Louis Poulsen PH5 Pendant Lamp by Poul Henningsen

Posted: 06 Oct 2011 05:56 AM PDT

Poul

If you want a modern (and official) reproduction of this, it will cost you £432. But this vintage Louis Poulsen PH5 Pendant Lamp by Poul Henningsen is currently on eBay for a small fraction of that price.

The lamp dates back to 1958 and is a bona fide design classic, used widely in both civil buildings and in the home, especially as a light over dining tables.

This is a vintage model, said to be from the '60s and original except for being rewired with new braided silk for the flex. Condition is described as 'very good' and has the correct 200 watt ceramic bulb holder as per the original design, as these fittings can take a 200 watt bulb (if you can find one, although one is supplied initially). You can also use low energy bulbs and lower wattage standard bulbs too.

If you want it, the bidding right now is £1.24.

Soda Siphon

Sodasiphon
Back in the days when every self-respecting host decanted their spirits into crystal and had an ice bucket on hand, a Soda Siphon like this one was an essential piece of kit.

The siphon has a glass body with protective net chrome steel casing. Add a gas cartridge, top the siphon up with tap water and you'll be all set to make your own soda water.  When you aren't serving up cocktails, it will look pretty good just sitting on your sideboard.

The soda siphon costs £90 from Manufactum.

Eames1

Regular readers might recall that we featured a walnut special edition of the classic Vitra Hang It All by Charles and Ray Eames. Well, two more special editions have just appeared, black and red being the colours.

Specifically, we're talking all-black and a mix of red and spruce for the latest versions of the 1953 midcentury classic (which is still available in original coloured form), the construction of the former being in steel and beech, the latter in steel and spruce.

Eames2

The price for both is the same though, each one retailing for £182.
