Fans of tattooing and tapestry can see their interests intersect with these Faith, Love and Hope Tapestry Kits from Emily Peacock.

Needles are central to both art forms, so if you're handy with a needle and thread but lack the inclination (or nerve) to go through with tattoing yourself,  you can still express your creative urges in needlepoint. There are three designs available; Faith, Love and Hope, featuring traditional tattoo motifs of swallows, stars, and anchors. The kits are available in either small, measuring 32.5cm x 39cm and costing £54.95 or large, measuring 55.5cm x 46cm and costing £75.

All three designs are available from designer Emily Peacock's website here.

Polka Dot Pencil Skirt from River Island

Now that 'retro' and 'vintage' is an seemingly all-encompassing thing now, it can be tricky finding something that's simple and actually captures that 'timelss' look from years gone by. However, rummage amongst the loud 80s patterns and ironic t-shirt slogans and there's still a load of gems to be had.

Take this simple (but effective) polka dot pencil skirt for example. It will go with just about everything you own and can be paired up with a '50s wardrobe just as much as it could sit with '60s mod clobber. At £22, it'd be rude not to.

It's available from River Island.

Red Collarless Coat from Peacocks

Winter is definitely here and you may well be thinking of getting a new coat or two. One worth looking at is this new addition at Peacocks. It's a double breasted 60s-style collarless coat. While that may seem impractical at this time of year, you can couple it up with your favourite scarf and not worry about it fighting for space around your neck.

The coat has that great Carnaby Street look about it, so you can strut like you're Bardot. It's certainly bright enough to turn heads through the grey weather of winter. It's machine washable too, so save money on those dry-cleaning bills.

Available at a snip for £36 from Peacocks

eBay watch: 1970s Merrow Associates rosewood and chrome sideboard

Posted: 25 Oct 2011 04:15 AM PDT

Merrow1

We're big fans of Merrow Associates, although most pieces on eBay are either overpriced or the same designs over and over again. This Merrow Associates rosewood and chrome sideboard is something a little different - it seems to be a one off piece.

We have seen a good few designs and although this has the look of a Merrow Associates piece, it's a design we haven't seen before. According to the seller, the sideboard was bought privately, rather than through a retailer, in the early 1970s, which could well indicate this being a private commission.

Merrow2

It's a huge item, 185cm across and is said to be in 'fantastic' condition, with the exception of a few scratches on the top which don't stand out. The rosewood and chrome are both in fine condition though, which is the important thing. It looks superb too, as well as being functional in terms of storage.

As you might expect, this sideboard isn't cheap, with the headline price at £3,000. Although you can make a cheaper offer at the site.

Brio Wooden Stacking Owl

Posted: 25 Oct 2011 03:44 AM PDT

Brioowl
Brio has been making wooden toys for more than 120 years, and whilst this Wooden Stacking Owl doesn't date quite that far back, it is a classic Brio design with a retro look to it.

The owl is made from solid wood, with a glossy paint finish and fabric wings. But he isn't just a good looking chap – he also helps with your baby's development skills as they learn how to put him together correctly.

The Stacking Owl costs £9.45 from the Little Baby Company.

If you've been paying attention, you'll have seen Darling Clementine designs on these pages before, mainly in the form of cards, but the Flora's Field Tray is the first tray we've featured by the Norwegian design duo.

Inspired by traditional Scandinavian folk art, the tray is handmade in Sweden from Scandinavian Birch veneer. The design features a glamorous lady (presumably by the name of Flora) amongst stylised flowers in black, pink and orange. The tray measures 28cm by 35.5cm and is dishwasher proof.

Buy it from Folly Home for £24.95.

Coby lamp from Laura Ashley

Posted: 25 Oct 2011 03:26 AM PDT

Coby

If you associate Laura Ashley with floral and floaty fabrics then their Coby lamp might come as a bit of a (hopefully pleasant) surprise.

The style is clearly influenced by 1930s-style lamps which are fashionable once again, with its cream shade and yellow flex. The look has been given a more industrial feel by the wooden stand, and an interesting take for this high street store: more like this please!

The lamp costs £78.75.

Postcards from ladybird

We love Ladybird's book designs, so we were delighted to see the new Postcards from Ladybird: 100 classic covers in one box. It does pretty much what it says on the box: in a similar style to the Penguin classics set it reproduces a hundred favourite book designs from the much loved children's publisher.

The designs date from the 1940s and Ladybird's first ever book, Bunnikins tea party, up to the 1970s, and are bound to stir up some nostalgic feelings. From classic fairy tales to 'How it works', it's all covered.

The box costs £14.99 - a small price for so many memories.
