Chrome1

Looking for a period feature light for not a lot of money? Well, right now, this 1970s chromed six-ball light fitting certainly fits that bill.

It's an eye-catching design and whilst unlikely to be a designer piece, this German-made fitting certainly screams the era. For our money, you get a hanging light with chromed ceiling fitting, then six chromed balls, which can be hung at varying heights for effect. The total height it can drop us 59 inches.

According to the seller, the fitting is working and in excellent vintage condition - no rust or damage. Fancy it? The light is current at just 63 pence.

Driade Costes Easy Chair

Posted: 26 Oct 2011 04:59 AM PDT

Costeseasychair
The Driade Costes Easy Chair dates back to 1985, but it wouldn't look out of place in an interior with a midcentury influence.

It is made from black tubular steel with a shell of curved plywood in a mahogany finish. It costs £639, but the hefty price tag shouldn't come as a surprise when we say it is a Philippe Starck design – and it is probably old enough now to be described as a classic.

Buy from Nest.

The Classic British Puddings Print is the ideal piece of art for anyone with a sweet tooth.

The print comprises an assortment of vintage lettering, spelling out the names of traditional desserts, including Knickerbocker Glory, Plum Duff, and my personal weakness, Bread and Butter Pudding. It is sold a Perspex-topped frame so it is lightweight and can be hung anywhere – the obvious choice being in the kitchen or dining room.

It costs £20 from Lily and Lime.

Adidas x Run DMC My Adidas Superstar 80s trainers

Posted: 26 Oct 2011 04:27 AM PDT

Run1

Not just your average Superstar 80s reissue, the Adidas x Run DMC My Adidas Superstar 80s trainers celebrate 25 years since Run DMC recorded My Adidas back in 1986.

Yes, an old school hip hop variation of a period classic. On the face of it, not hugely different in looks, but there is some variation in the detailing. A white and black colourway, the shoes have a tribute to Jason Mizell on the heel tab, Run DMC branding inside, a commemorative tongue, 'me and my Adidas' sewn behind that tongue, '1986' embroidered onto the heel and a 'lace jewel' (removable) on the front.

Run2

Limited numbers (appropriately 1986 pairs), all available from selected dealers from November onwards. Price? Probably premium, around the £100 mark at a guess.

One good cup deserves another tins from Jamie Oliver

Posted: 26 Oct 2011 03:29 AM PDT

Good tins

In his apparently non-stoppable rise to world domination, Jamie Oliver also has time to put his name to some rather nice retro kitchen accessories, such as these One good cup deserves another tins

It's a set of three tins, decorated with colourful, typically chirpy slogans that apparently draw their inspiration from 1950s advertising, though the typography could easily sit a bit earlier than that. Tea, coffee and sugar each get their own tin and uplifting slogan, offering a nice way to brighten a corner of the kitchen.

A set costs £16.50

Cult Eyewear by Neil Handley

Cult eyewear

Been looking out for a new coffee table tome? Both those with 20:20 vision, and those needing a bit more of a helping hand are sure to delight in the new book Cult Eyewear by Neil Handley

Neil Handley is the Curator of the British Optical Association Museum so he knows his specs. This book charts their history from the 1780s to the present day. Probably of most interest to Retro To Go readers is how he charts the story of some of the world's most famous eyewear brands, such as Ray-Ban and Persol. The book is heavily and attractively illustrated, with over 500 illustrations over its 192 pages (there's a sample spread below), and is suitably pleasing on the eye.

With plenty of stylistic inspiration, the book will cost you £25.46 from Amazon.
