Ginghambandeau

For many of us the return of the one-piece swimsuit in recent years has been a welcome surprise, taking vintage inspiration back into the mainstream of beach looks. This Romance Gingham Bandeau Swimsuit from Jessika Allen's JETS line is a stylish retro choice that rivals the most head-turning bikinis.

The sleeveless bandeau cut adds instant fifties chic to this piece, balancing the full bottom half to create a vampish hourglass with killer curves. The pin-up influence is leant a sweeter cheesecake appeal with the use of a classic blue gingham print throughout, making it easy to wear on any sunny occasion.

It's available online in the UK from Net-a-Porter for £170.

Trudy Earrings from Fred Flare

Trudyearrings

Second hand shopping can often be a treasure trove for eighties fashion lovers, with plenty of original pieces still to be found among the rails of charity shops and vintage boutiques alike. When it comes to accessories like earrings, however, sometimes it's best to opt for faithful reproductions like these Trudy Earrings from Fred Flare.

Made with an art deco inspired edge, the original pair that inspired these reproductions were most likely made in the eighties. The turquoise and gold combination instantly speaks of the decadence of that era's fashion, while an oversized square shape is sure to get these noticed.

They're available now from Fred Flare for $10 a pair.

eBay watch: 1960s Guzzini Clan table lamp

Posted: 04 Apr 2011 10:09 AM PDT

Clan

I don't like to feature similar items in our eBay spot day-to-day, but I feel compelled to feature this stunning 1960s Guzzini Clan table lamp, despite featuring a Guzzini lamp just last week.

It's just an amazing space age design, as well as quite a rare one. According to the seller, the lamp, part of a series produced by the company from 1968 to 1977 and was designed by the in-house Studio 6G team. Its shape screams the era - sat on a plastic plinth, it can move around to angle the light wherever you want it.

But just as importantly, it seems to be in great condition, with 'just minor traces of use' and with the Guzzini sticky label still attached. A few bids on it already, but at £67.06, it's still a bargain.

Becky Broome Framed Textiles

F120L%20SIDE%20STYLED%20RED(1)
Last year, we featured Becky Broome's kitchen textiles, so we are pleased to see that she has increased her range to include Framed Textiles.

The designs are similar to her kitchen textiles, a combination of things belonging to her great grandparents and unusual printed stitchwork. Here the designs have been printed onto cotton and mounted into wooden frames. In keeping with the vintage look, the frames have been handpainted using Farrow & Ball Blue Gray paint. There are three designs to choose from, each costing £110 (a somewhat higher price than her tea towels).

Buy the framed textiles directly from Becky Broome's website.

Three Sisters Decorative Platters are siblings based around the USA who come together to create nostalgic decoupage platters.

Each platter is handmade and designed around a particular theme. The current selection includes such retro themes as The Beatles, Elvis, TV Shows from the 70s and 80s, 60s Hippie and the one pictured here, 1970s Album Covers. All of the cut out images are sealed under the glass, so the platters are quite safe to eat off, although not suitable for microwaves or dishwashers.

The platters cost just over £22 each and can be bought via the Three Sisters' Etsy Store.

Jolie table lamp from John Lewis

Jolie

It's impossible to escape the mid-century homewares trend at the moment. However, with original pieces becoming harder to find at reasonable prices and many reproductions being out of us mere mortals' budget, it's always a pleasent surprise to find items with a retro influence which don't break the bank.

This colourful Jolie table lamp from John Lewis is influenced by the iconic Italian design house Kartell, who were, of course, responsible for the famous Philippe Starck Ghost Chair. The clear glass base houses the feature colour flex cable which matches the barrel lampshade. A simple yet striking 60s-style design that doesn't cost the earth; now you just need somewhere to put it.

The Jolie table lamp, available in 7 colours, is a very reasonable £35 from John Lewis. See website for more details.

Desperate
Looking for some reasonably priced art? Take a look at the work of Bryony Lloyd, here illustrated by her Desperate Housewife print

Bryony is a London-based artist who describes her work as being inspired by the nostalgic and the mystical. This print definitely leans towards the former quality, depicting a glamorous 1960s era woman complete with leopard print swimsuit, martini glass and mid-century style side table - you can have fun speculating on her back story yourself.

The price is very reasonable too: an A3 giclee print costs £20.

Gamer calculator

This retro gaming controller calculator is one way to make sums a whole lot more fun. Available from Urban Outfitters, it has applied the functions of a calculator to the looks and shapes of a classic gaming handset.

There are a lot more keys than on your average controller: your addition, subtraction, multiplication and division keys are found where you would normally find the directions, while instead of the usual jump and attack keys you've got such delights as the square root and percentage functions.

Designed to help you master problems even more challenging than the average game, the calculator costs £12.
