Tan Funnel Neck Coat from Principles

Delisicoat

When it comes to overcoats with retro appeal, the most simple and well executed details are the key to pulling off your look of choice. This Tan Funnel Neck Coat from Principles by Ben de Lisi is a subtle but classic piece that oozes luxury.

The cut hits all the right style points for a sixties/seventies crossover look. The funnel neck, combined with double breasted button fastening and a flared sleeve create a cool vintage inspired silhouette. The addition of a waist belt adds a touch of femininity while the tan fabric looks luxurious beyond its pricetag.

It's available from Debenhams for £99.

Butterfly Print Dress from M&S

Butterflydress

Quirky and stylish prints are a surefire hit for retro fashion design, instantly transforming a dress or top into a vintage-look must have. This Butterfly Print Dress from Marks and Spencer takes a cute print and chic cut to create a late sixties look.

The minidress is given a later sixties feel thanks to the flowing swing skirt, countered by a high neckline and capped sleeve to minimise the bust. The addition of a skinny belt provides a contrast to the great Autumnal mustard shade.

Get yours from M&S now for £39.50.

For sale: 1970s Loch Tummel House in Strathtummel, Pitlochry, Scotland

Posted: 09 Nov 2011 08:57 AM PST

Pit2

It's a mix of midcentury and James Bond villain's lair. Either way, Loch Tummel House in Strathtummel, Pitlochry, Scotland is an impressive property, both in looks and location.

It dates back to 1972, sitting on the north shore of Loch Tummel within the hamlet of Strathtummel. That's also an area of outstanding natural beauty, which you've probably guessed.

Pit1

The house, within the woods and on that hill, is a single-story property with a sitting room, dining kitchen, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a utility room/boot room making up the main accommodation. There's also an integral double garage and workshop, which are integral to the house, while the master bedroom, sitting room and kitchen all have southerly views across Loch Tummel. Period features aplenty too, like the fitted cupboards in the kitchen and dressing room, the tiles in the kitchen and bathrooms, the flooring and soft furnishings.

Pit3

If that's not enough, the house has those amazing views, as well as 18 acres of land (part of which is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest), a loch frontage and jetty, a log store, greenhouse and summerhouse. If you want it, offers in excess of £495,000 are being considered.

eBay watch: 1960s Boby Trolley by Joe Colombo

Posted: 09 Nov 2011 08:37 AM PST

Boby

This is a design classic, of that there is no doubt. In fact, the Boby Trolley by Joe Colombo is still in production in reissued form - but selling for a lot more than this example.

The Boby was designed by Joe Colombo for Bieffe in 1969 and as well as being a space age classic, is also a very practical piece of furniture, which is perhaps why B-Line is still making them, selling for between £216 and £305, depending on the size you want.

This auction example looks to be one of the larger (more expensive) examples, with extra flip-out storage for your bits and pieces. It;s in red, with the plastic signature present and is described as being in 'excellent all round condition with no cracks or chips and fully operational'.

Just one problem - a small discolouration on the top, which just takes the edge off it. If you can live with that, the current price of £60 is very appealing.

Jonathan Adler Elephant Butter Dish

Posted: 09 Nov 2011 08:35 AM PST

Elephantbutterdish
So far I've managed to resist the charms of Jonathan Adler's recently launched UK store, but I doubt I'll be restrained for long, especially with lovely things like this Elephant Butter Dish.

The butter dish (in itself a rather retro concept) is made from high-fired stoneware with a gloss white glaze and pop decal in a blue paisley-like pattern. It is in the shape of a cute little elephant. What is not to like? Probably the price - £68 being rather a lot for such a frivolous item.

Buy it online at the Jonathan Adler website.

Tip Top Pendant L040

Posted: 09 Nov 2011 08:31 AM PST

Tiptoppendant
We've featured Jørgen Gammelgaard's original version before, but thought was also worth mentioning this variation, the Tip Top Pendant L040, as well.

Gammelgaard's inspiration for the original came in Samoa when faced with poor lighting, he improvised by turning the light strip vertical and decorating it with plastic lids. In the L040 model, the light is shaded by six shades, which are still made by hand although from aluminium rather than plastic. Choose from either brushed aluminium or shades painted white or black.

The light costs £469 from the Lollipop Shoppe.

Compact desk by Mint

Mint desk

Another desk that demands serious attention but the Compact desk by Mint is in a quite a different style to the solid lines of the Gainsborough desk which we showed you on Monday. In fact, the lines of this desk shows more of a mid-century influence.

Made from solid ash or walnut, it's an elegant piece of design featuring one main drawer for all your desk paraphernalia. The desk top is decorated with a laminate finish, available in a whole host of colours to best complement your home.

A lovely looking piece, but with a more expensive price tag to match. The ash version costs 1306 euros, while the walnut version goes for 1435 euros.

Retro Popcorn Maker by Giles and Posner

Posted: 09 Nov 2011 03:03 AM PST

987538_mBring all the fun of the fair plus a healthy dose of fifties style in to your kitchen with this Retro Popcorn Maker by Giles and Posner.

It's a nifty little bit of kit, measuring just 30cm tall and capable of popping 100 grams of popcorn kernels in less than 4 minutes. It's a stylish metallic red with chrome stripes but although it has oodles of retro style it uses modern technology to pop your corn with hot air rather than oil to produce a delicious and healthy snack.

It costs £28 from Heals - check it out here.
