eBay watch: 1950s midcentury Hans Olsen dining table and chairs for Frem Rojle

Frem

When I'm looking for interesting eBay finds, I try and look for items that have low starting prices, but occasionally, quality wins out at a high price. Which brings me to this 1950s midcentury Hans Olsen dining table and chairs for Frem Rojle.

It's timeless. Designed in 1953 (with this one dating from around 1960), this Scandinavian design would fit effortlessly into most modern-day homes. Clever design too, with the chairs integrating perfectly into the the table to save space, while a quick fold turns the table into a six-seater,

Made of Burmese oak and described as being in 'very good original condition', it's up at £895.

Fresh slice - vinyl themed pizza cutter

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 07:41 AM PDT

Fresh slice

We love a good bit of vinyl, which is handy as shops seem eager to sell us record-related home accessories - the latest being the Fresh slice pizza cutter. Yep, it's a pizza cutter in which the blade is made to resemble a record (thankfully made from stainless steel rather than vinyl) and the plastic handle is made to look like a stylus arm.

File it next to the vinyl chopping board and the clock as a kitsch bit of kitchen fun.

The cutter costs £15.

For sale: Six-bedroom 1930s art deco house in Prestwich, near Manchester

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 06:56 AM PDT

Prestwich1

If this six-bedroom art deco house in Prestwich, near Manchester was a football match, it would be a game of two halves. Why? Read on.

It's all about the photos offered with the listing. Details are scarce on its history, the agent simply describing it as 'one of the most individual, presage, detached properties in the Prestwich area'. But a glance at it should be enough to tell you it's an art deco property very likely to have been built in the 1930s, with some very cool original details.

Prestwich2

Those include some huge wooden arched doors inside, some of which seem to be slide doors. There's also a superb railing on the staircase, a nice lighting effect in the living room and what looks like some original stained glass windows. On the flipside is a bar (presumably recent) and a number of rooms that look like they've been stripped of all period features and made into fairly bland spaces that could be from any modern-day home. Shame about most of the windows too. Part of me wonders if it's had an extension - you'll probably need to ask that.

Saying that, it shouldn't be hard to put some of the 'period' back in if you want it and there's lots of space - six bedrooms, two reception rooms, a second dining room, TV room, sitting room, bar/games room, large hall, kitchen/diner, detached double garage and plenty of grounds surrounding.

Price is 'on application', so unlikely to be cheap. To find out for sure, give the agent a call.

An-Tea Establishment Afternoon Tea, Met Bar, London

Posted: 14 Apr 2011 03:45 AM PDT

Mb_tea
As punks "celebrated" the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, it seemed inevitable that someone would add a punk twist to the upcoming Royal Wedding. It is in this spirit that London cocktail bar, The Met Bar, is hosting An-Tea Establishment Afternoon Tea.

This special tea will be available between 22 April and 8 May to coincide with the nuptials and will offer a menu including cucumber sandwiches, cupcakes and punk-inspired cocktails. The tea costs £27 + service charge per person, which isn't cheap, but royal weddings don't come around that often and if you want to avoid it, you may as well do it in style.

Visit The Met Bar website for booking details.
